Wow. A basic understanding of hydraulics and gravity nullifies any need for sucking on hoses. You don't need a python, special valve or anything but the siphon. I'd like to say I've never had this happen to me, but the truth is that it has. I was draining a tank all the way down and there wasn't enough water in the bottom to take advantage of, so I did use oral suction and got a tiny taste. But in a full tank, all you have to do is fill the wide end of the siphon, lift it out like a full glass of water, and dunk it back in as the water shoots down the hose, but before the line can trap any air. It fails once in awhile if you go too slow or too fast, but it's far better than tasting tank H2O.

u just give that grey part a couple squeezes and water starts flowing
it has a release button as well (that lil pink cap) and it stops

i have a normal siphon as well im get the siphon going by submersing one end and letting water in the whole tube putting the whole thing under water
then i bend it in half so no water gets out and pulling it out releasing it into a bucket if u dont want to use a bucket move it to a sink or out side

this is why i bought a gravel vac with a squeeze-pump. i didnt need to taste (or inhale) fish crap a second time.
that happen to me, but with gasoline. me and my cousin were trying to play a trick on a friend, so we tried to empty out his tank with a small hose, and guess who was the one who had to suck on the end of the hose to get the gasoline out? of couse me. and i didn't notice the gasoline was cumming and i sucked harder and swalloed a qwart of gasoline
HAHA this happen to me before but now i have this vac with the pump to get it to start sucking now (no mouth involved anymore 
). But the placing a finger on one end and putting the other end in water, lift it out of the tank to let it drain then hurry up and put it back into the tank works sometimes too

it works everytime and it tastes better
