A month? At that size? Wow. I'm not sure I could handle waiting a month for this guy to eat, I'd be freaking out.
Drove me mad I thought I was going to lose him. Thanks to everyone at MFK for helping me get through it.

nice silver.
i thought they were supposed to get to 2 feet in a year?
mine's already 17 inches and hes supposed to be bigger.
and hes only a year old.

He ate!

I was a little worried, not so much about the lack of appetite - since it was mentioned that the baby went a month without eating - but more because he seemed a little stressed out and I remember that in the store he was swimming happily in an overcrowded tank. I think my two gouramis might scare him a bit.

Anyway, tonight I fed a bunch of frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp and a bit of krill. The others chased all the sinking pieces and that left a few floating bits of bloodworm to drift over to him, which he happily scooped up. This seems to have inspired him, because then he descended to get a few flakes of shrimp, and then he started snacking on the hikari pellets I had been feeding all along that he hadn't touched. They're the smallest pellet but might still be a bit too large for him... he can't close his mouth all the way and ends up spitting them out. He seems to prefer my dried krill pellets, which I can crumble up to smaller pieces. Only problem is that they sink very quickly so he misses them a lot.

So in the span of thirty seconds he went from scared and boring to energized and very entertaining. I'm very excited. Now the growth spurt can begin!

I put a background on the tank, as I've seen people mention that having dark backgrounds can help bring out their colors more. Probably too early for anything like that but I like the way it looks anyway. Do they really bring out their colors more or is that just sort of an unproven opinion?

He sure is. He's getting more assertive about it too. He is even accepting flake, but getting to chomp his pellet at each feeding is what really makes him happy. The other day he scooped up a stalk of a plant that floated to the top and swam around with it for a bit trying to eat it. It was pretty funny.

I named him Frankenstein. :)

wow is that inspiring news.. you should be on your way now to a very successful feeding program.. such a relief now.. congradulations! Frankie is a good name ...haha

Aro with an eating attitude...;)

YUP, YUP!!,
Variety of foods,
hours of close observatiion,
naming the little critter,

this would be the start of a serious Arowana addiction,:D
and just like that,
...you're hooked:ROFL:

No kidding. I have gotten super attached to this guy already, as has my girlfriend (who was repulsed by arowanas until she met him). He is currently distracting us from last night's tragedy (lost my two distichoduses due to lack of gas exchange after a water change). We're really excited about watching this guy grow into the big tank. And we're already considering buying the other little guy at the store (after I bought this one they got another one in to replace him). AND the 6" orange/pink accented one I like too. That'd end up being overkill in about 6 months though. I can't get them a true monster tank till next year. Must resist the urges...
