Liz what breeds of horse do you have?
Did you ever consider getting a PMU mare/foal?
I looked into it more because they are draft but i've got time/finance constraints right now
(plus I'm lazy I had horses a couple years before grad school and they are a LOT of work)
I totally got lucky when I had to sell mine. One went to a fellow student who kept her until she passed of old age
the appendix quarter went to someone who treated him like her child and I saw him for a couple of years after the sale
Ok total hijack sorry it's 5 AM

Someone sent me an e-mail of a photo taken in I believe Somalia
It was of a boy with sticklike arms crawling towards a food station
There was a vulture in the picture waiting to eat him.
In the explanation it said the photographer later committed suicide.
I always wonder if they help these individuals after taking the pictures?
I don't have it anymore

Sigh

I love animals but sometimes I think our emphasis is misplaced
I should probly join the peace core or something but I hate going outside , Heat and bugs. (besides the fact that i have some other obligations right now)

Liz you must be the nicest person who posts, I don't think anything you have ever posted has been negative or provacative and you are always supportive of people
I agree that it's sad that some people are so lacking in empathy that causing pain/harm to another creature is considered "sport" At least boxers, and football players choose to do what they do
:nilly: :nilly:
How many times have I heard "oh i just want her to have one litter before she gets spayed so the kids can have the experience":nilly: :nilly: :nilly:

LOL I'm out of work until Saturday because of a dogbite NOT a pit and it's an occupational hazard so it's not as if I'm mad at the dog OR owner.

With all my cats I worry because honestly who would take care of em like me
There's an organization called Home for life, I need to speak with someone who has dealt with them but I'm strongly considering setting something up

Hmm Sorry for Hijack
How to change how people treat animals when they don't treat each other well?

Thank you for the sweet compliment.. but i do sometimes say things the are controversal but i just try to say it nice...and i am far from an expert at why or what makes people do the things they do.. i do not know what the answer is about horse slaughter.or the ban on pitbulls,.... will there be even more suffering if they are banned..i don't have the answers. Some people have alot of hostility and treating this person back with hostility is only going to make things worse..so i save that energy if all else fails.. I am an animal lover but people are always my first priority... I love people..;) yet i am not a liberal in my thinking.. people have to be shown and given a chance in life.. most of them need a hug...:)

.. We have 3 belgians and 3 Ouarter horses.. Another horse is impossible at the moment.. we had a barn built after we moved here for our 5 horses and we had the exact stalls for them{5} and our horse we sold years ago suddenly was coming back to us because the person became ill. So we built an extention on the brand new barn for her... so we are full to capacity and also have enough to handle ..especially with these NY winters... That is great that things turned out so well for your guys.. yes it is major work.. to take care of them properly.. ;)

The thought of such disgusting acts makes me sick. I take my pitbull to petco, petsmart, the walking trails, and the lake as often as possible so I can introduce him to as many people as possible. I've had very few bad reactions. Most of the bad reactions changed once they saw he was the best behaved dog in the area. I try to make him an ambassador(sp?) of the breed. So far it has worked. When I adopted him(no one should buy/breed them since so many need homes) my dad said he is not a dog, he's a weapon and a killing machine. Now I can bring him to my parents house and their place at the lake. Nature and nurture both play a part in every living things temperment. Until we can give people enough nuture to overpower their nature, there will always be agressive dogs of every breed.

Guinness

P.S. My pit came from TWO abusive homes before I got him and he is NOT human OR animal aggressive.
That is a great story and loved the pic of both of you.

That child in the photo with the vulture was helped immediatly after the photo was taken and no, the photographer did not committ suicide. He is a very reknown professional and that pix is often used ( also by him ) as an example where the line should be drawn between profession and humanity..

And yes, I fully agree that people ( don't bash me, but I believe mostly anglo saxons ) tend to, increasingly, misplace their emphasis... We use to say in the southe of europe that "an english guy likes his dog more than he likes people...." It is a saying, but in a certain manner it does reflect reality.

Fully agree with you about Lizz!

Have you managed to quit smoking??

you see my horses... i will not let them go to someone i cannot trust because horsemeat is about $2.00 a pound.. Breeders keep bringing more and more foals into a world that is over populated with too little pasture and farm land for horses.. so eventually alot of those people sell their horses to meat ...this scares me to death.. there are so many wrong things in our society.. we have to put a limit on breeding all domestic animals ..because it is the surplus that eventually ends up being the culprit... too many dogs of all kinds in shelters with a waiting death sentence.. too many cats.. too many fish taken from the rivers and streams for consumption and hobby etc etc.. It is all a fight but it does not matter if its a pitbull or a horse .. if you do not have a place for that animal to go and live a good life then people should not breed them.... :(

I kind of agree with what you're are saying but its kinda wrong. Firstly we can't stop breeding domesticated animals. They're the reason why civlization 1000's of years ago evolved and why we are here now.

I agree that over breeding the horses and selling what you can't keep as food is wrong, but i don't think that eating the horse is wrong. Food is what you make of something. Take for example me and my house mate. I see a rabbit and i think aww cute fluffy bunny. My house mate sees a rabbit and is thinking mmmm nice stew.
