Excellent news! So, your water is not all that bad if they ate. Still, I would like to understand and learn from your experience.

1. Just as has been stated twice already: what are the units? ammonia of 0.01 of what? Necrocanis, you seem to know what Jreeper is talking about, no?

2. I too am interested in understanding what test kit you are using and how it works. Electronic, I think, would mean ion-selective electrodes, which cost from hundreds to thousands of $ and are far from easy to use even in a research lab setting.

The fish eating isn't all that matters. You say you fed them until their bellies are blown so you added a huge load to a filtration system that already wasn't able to keep up with the load when they weren't eating.
