I was shocked too, not for the fact that he didn't become dinner, but he got involved in the territorial fights.

I know not to push my luck, and will have to figure out other arrangements for when the cats get bigger, but neither one has munched on anyone in the tank. Even the rtcXtsn has been real tame and tolerant over the last couple months. Maybe has something to do with me learning a valuable lesson with my regular monster achara....do NOT forget to feed. Then they decide to make their own snacks (and expensive ones too)

Plus, if you check my tank setup, I'm pretty sure it's updated, but you will see I have 4 goldfish in there too, which just won't go away. They were leftovers from the kids tank I broke down several months ago...just a matter of time :evil_lol:

I have actually heard that redtailed sharks respond to certain species and can become agressive. It was the fact that half of his body wasn't hanging out the front end of one of your cats that was the surprise. The thing that I have found with my cats is if it stands up for itself it makes it. If it runs and gives chase it's dinner. As for those goldfish, I hope your kids aren't too attached! :D

well, as for the goldfish, they are too big right now for anybody other than my big kitty fish, or the flowerhorn cichlid to tear apart. It will be some time for that....and I've been waiting for one by one to disappear...The oldest one's mean. Bullied several other fish before being exiled into this tank, including harrassing my lil' arrowana....

The redtail is amazingly thick. He's fullgrown I believe, just a lil over 4inches, but he's a fatty. In the one pic of achara x tsn, you can see his red tail on the left side I think. Honestly, that's the first redtail I've seen get in a trio battle

As for the fight or flight, I agree, when it comes to certain fishes. A different story for my flowerhorn cichlid who was half the size of my oscar. Oscar was in ICU for weeks as she stood her ground, and had insides~out to show for it :yuck:

The gold fish beat up the arowana?!? Maybe he's thinking if he beats up on it soon before the arowana sees him as dinner. Tell him he will be the "just desserts" eventually. ;)

Hope that poor oscar survived the beating. Those cichilds can be unbelievable mean little buggers.

Yes, I wouldn't believe it either if I didn't witness it with my own eyes!! Then, my dang albino polypterus, who was as long, maybe just a tad shorter than the arowana bit off the arowana's tail in a death roll. Was actually on here on night, around 3am when I heard some splattering noises from the one tank...had to make the poly let go of my traumatized arowana. THat poor thing's been thru a lot. His tail never fully grew back right.

As for the oscar, Yes, she actually did survive, amazingly enough. It was so gross....Her side's permantly scarred outward from it. My poor 8yr old oscar...The flowerhorn's been living in exile since taking chunks out of my big achara catfish, and trying to kill his "kids" (pictus cats). Getting ready to do tank or fish rearranging so we can keep everyone, and no one gets an unapproved "snack"

I have a 4-5" Red tailed black shark in with my cats too, he was a cast off from work as they had 2 and it was just getting bullied into submition by the other one so threw him in with mine expecting him to get eaten. I've even seen it hanging around the mouths of my 18"+ tsn and rtcxtsn without getting eaten! i don't know how they survive with big cats, but they do!

he has an amazing appetite, always hungry and chows down on several frozen krill. So far nobody's gone missing. He's very territorial, and isn't afraid of anybody in there
