Stunning fish you have there , I wish i had one. What did he cost if you dont mind me asking.

Thanks...well, my lfs is more expensive than others from what I hear. Not too many options in my area, so we do pay more....he was just under $70. IMO, well worth it as I really wanted him. As soon as I saw him listed on the tank, then had the store associate help chase him outta his cave, I was in LOVE. I had them pull off the tag on the tank, and noted I was gonna buy him as I finished looking around (also got myself a girraffe catfish as I wanted one for a couple yrs).

We're looking into upgrading one of our existing tanks, and then some.....maybe indoor pond in the garage in the making in the near future :naughty: ..... I know we *should* wait tho for a couple more years when we get a bigger place tho....

I just LOVE this lil' bugger. I will have to put up a better video of him tho to really see him in action

You're gonna also love your giraffe. They have what can only fittingly be called 'tude. My guy runs the tank, is super active, plays in the sand, begs for food when he's hungry by constant mouthing the glass right where your face is, and is super personable. Fun fish.

I actually watched one of your video's last week with your fishies in the new 600g and was laughing at the one pic of your giraffe "kissing" the glass.

Damn the giraffe poops alot!!! Was thinking I may have to upgrade the filtration (again) on the 125g

Nice pickup, he look's good.
Look's like he has some size to him already.
I hope to have one or two by the end of the week. Can't wait.

I'm hoping to put up new pics tomorrow, but wanted to say that he's already grown 1-2" in only 2 weeks. He's very tame, and actually lets my hand approach him, and was handfed today...

Late last night I was cleaning out the sump for the 265g when I heard things that I shouldn't have coming from the 125g that he's in. He had a nice rounded belly that he didn't have an hour or two earlier.... and couldn't account for 3 out of 4 of my clown loaches. I caught him with the nets (didn't like), but once he settled down, he just laid in the cuff of my hand underwater. I felt his belly to see if it was, um, moving. Let him go, he wasn't frantic. I know it was bad to do, but I couldn't resist...he let my hand approach him 2 more times after this, and I, well, actually scooped him up in my palm. He was fine and just stayed there. I did it again tonight just to see. I know I shouldn't have, and I'm not going to again, but he is just so dang neat. I can't get over how calm he is.

I did indeed find the 3 loaches this morning, and last night realized there was a lil' pile of uneaten krill leftover that he got to. I felt like the worst mamma for blaming him, and capturing him for no reason, but now I know as long as he's kept wellfed, he won't bother anyone (for now)

Love that Bernard does that. Its funny, but its also really cool to get to look into his crazy mouth. They do poop like crazy, but he doesn't poop near as much as the TSN and RTCxTSN! I've got a lot of filtration on the 600, but the nitrates are tough to control.

to be honest, I haven't tested one of my tanks for years. Used to swear by the tests...ammonia, ph, oxygen, nitrates, nitrites, hardness, etc. But, I then realized with all the products I was to put in the water to help clarify the problem, could all be remedied with just simple maintenance and water changes.

Before I discovered the uv sterilizer, I used algea destroyer...watched one by one over a couple months of my fish die. LFS owner said the chemicals actually cause liver failure....same goes for treating for ick...uv light takes care of that

So, I have NO idea what my levels are in any of the tanks. I just look for signs (whisker receeding, heavier breathing, etc) and know that it needs emergency TLC, above regular TLC

oh, honestly, for the size of my giraffe (smaller of the fellows in there) I can't believe the amount he releases!!!! The other day I put in a magnum HOT from upgrading the filtration on another tank...so, on the 125g I have FX5, magmum HOT, AC 110, and the uv light. I STILL want more, lol...

While my cats were in the 180 and waiting for me to put up the 600, I was doing 2-3 50% or more water changes a week. I had an FX5, a homemade 5 gallon bucket filter, and several large sponge filters and I was still battling ammonia. It was horrible. Even in the 600 (which I have a 100 gallon sump on and all the other plumbing so its got to be around 650 or more) I can't get away with anything less than 50% change a week. I try not to obsess over the tests too much and go with how the fish are actually doing, but I do see less health problems if I stay on top of it. At least I'm not battling ammonia. I don't put anything in my tanks other than prime and a little acid, and I try not to medicate unless I have to. As for that water clarifier stuff, I've only used it once in the 600, but not while there were fish in there and put tons of carbon in there to get it out. That stuff scares me. I wouldn't want that crap in my drinking water, so I definitely wouldn't want to live in it. Its hard to believe they sell that stuff sometimes claiming its just fine.
