to be honest, I haven't tested one of my tanks for years. Used to swear by the tests...ammonia, ph, oxygen, nitrates, nitrites, hardness, etc. But, I then realized with all the products I was to put in the water to help clarify the problem, could all be remedied with just simple maintenance and water changes.

Before I discovered the uv sterilizer, I used algea destroyer...watched one by one over a couple months of my fish die. LFS owner said the chemicals actually cause liver failure....same goes for treating for ick...uv light takes care of that

So, I have NO idea what my levels are in any of the tanks. I just look for signs (whisker receeding, heavier breathing, etc) and know that it needs emergency TLC, above regular TLC

oh, honestly, for the size of my giraffe (smaller of the fellows in there) I can't believe the amount he releases!!!! The other day I put in a magnum HOT from upgrading the filtration on another tank...so, on the 125g I have FX5, magmum HOT, AC 110, and the uv light. I STILL want more, lol...
While most good aquarists can see if there tank needs a wc by observing the fish (like me [i'm the humblest person I know lol]) tests can help you gat an earlier warning. I only test 1nce a month for free at my lfs lol. And thats alternating between tanks.

very nice. My fav LFS has one in right now. They got it from TFD...probably where yours came from, too. I've been thinking about getting it, but if it's growing as fast as you say, IDK if I can deal with it. I wouldn't want my 6" 24K kelberi becoming a snack in a couple months as it would have to go in my 300.

keep us updated with the pics! :D

are there any pix of these at larger sizes? I know they get big, but how big? TSN big or Marm big?

I know what you mean, and your post is the first place I came to. They are similar in many ways, but yours seems to have a longer flatter nose than his. I think his are very likely this cross as its never a guarantee what hybrids will end up looking like. It can depend on which one is mom and dad, and what genes they just happen to end up with. This is a big part of what makes hybrids so interesting. Keep posting photos so we can see what he looks like over time!:)

Edit: You know, I was just looking at the pic of your giraffe cat and hybrid again. I would be very interested to see some more pics of him. My one giraffe cat has to be a different species than my big guy and I am interested to see pics of some some small giraffes.

I agree that my lil' hybrid does resemble the tsn head as it's longer and flatter, and has the markings of the tsn, but definitely has the growth rate of the achara.

I did take more pics of my lil' devil (what I named him) and of the giraffe....I took them on my phone as it seems to come out better, but I have sucha hard time trying to figure out how to format them to upload here. that's were my hubby comes into play.

I noticed he's outgrowing my tsn x rtc that I got in august already. And, devil was quite a bit smaller.

I love hybrids...it's true, you never know how they're gonna come out as.

Since devil's so tame, I'm just gonna have to catch him to take a close up pic...I'll try playing around tonight maybe after work (when kids are sleeping)

And dang, the giraffe grew quite a bit too. Such a good lil'l eater, but he's always late for dinner as he comes out of his spot when most is gone. Cool tho how he likes to bury himself (literally) in the sand

as soon as the attachments are fixed, I will post new pics. I got some nice new ones tonight...wanted to say that he grew from a "cute" 5" in January to 11"!!! He was front and center tonight so I measured him and took lots of pics

wet whiskers...I also got some good upclose pics of my giraffe cat as you wanted to see more to compare to yours

this hybrid is definitely growing fast like the achara. hasn't eaten anyone, altho there's plenty of opportunity. guess the key is to keep him well fed as I learned the hard way from my big ol' achara kitty fish ;)

That could take a very long time, you should just upload them to your albums then use the BB code to post them here (just copy and past the code into your post).
