I hate New LIFe Spectrum(NLS) FIsh food

While I found your title to this discussion immature, it certainly didn't offend me.

I am simply attempting to point out that your set up is where most the problem lays, not in the food that you are feeding. This would be the same advice that I would give regardless of the brand/formula or type of food that you are using.

Just a few short weeks ago you stated that your water tested positive for nitrites, which tells me that your set up has not fully matured. To add to that problem you have been cleaning some of your filter media in tap water, which of course destroys most if not all of the bio bacteria on that media. This too may be affecting your overall bio filtration. If the bio bacteria isn't functioning at full capacity, or isn't sufficient for the bio load in your set up, then organics will build up & will begin to stink, especially in an open rubbermaid stock tank that's sitting on the floor in your home.
The reality is that over time that entire room will begin to smell like ass, no matter what food that you feed.

The solution, build a more efficient filtration system, clean it more often, perform water changes twice weekly, cut back on the bio load, or move the pond outside.

Clockwork - yes, some people do find the TherA formula to be a bit too much due to the mega dose of garlic, others feed it as an every day staple with no complaints. Personally I only feed it to newly acquired fish, and only for a few weeks.

I will add more bio media, but that means that 20liters of submerged seachem pond matrix isn't what is was promised by seachem.
The mechanical parts of my filtration are what I clean with tap water. Yes I had nitrites but before that I had no nitrites and now they're gone again. SO something happened to my filter but I don't know what.

The only way to clean my mechanical media is with tap water, tank water just won't cut it. I even have to get some soap out to clean the mechanical micron pads to get all of the waste out. The pads get thoroughly rinsed and soak in dechlorinator treated water before going back in.

Like I have said earlier I have made my filter more efficent, and I have always cleaned out my seachem pond matrix every two months with water that was pre treated with prime; and in my last post the smell gos away when I don't feed NLS. The NLS smell does clear up after 6 hrs, but feeding my fish shouldn't produce a rotten smell (the smell is not "ass", more like rotten vegetables). When I feed my fish clams, shrimp, or fish fillets I only get a smell when the food is in my hands and that is of fresh fish.

How is my title immature?

I would like the smell of garlic in the air, but I don't get any garlic smell with the nls I have and I am using.

Soap? Did i read that right?

Yep, and if read right ya know why and that it is eliminated form the pads before reuse.

aqua - you might want to read the quote below again, I never suggested that you need to add more bio media, or that fish food doesn't have any odour to it. Of course it does, it's made from krill, herring, and squid. What do you expect it to smell like, a rose garden?

The solution, build a more efficient filtration system, clean it more often, perform water changes twice weekly, cut back on the bio load, or move the pond outside.

If I can walk into a friends family room that has two 550 gallon display tanks running off of 150 gallon sumps, both which are fed NLS on a daily basis, and there are no odors present, what does that tell you?

A local discus breeder has 3,000+ gallons worth of juvie & breeder tanks set up in a rather tight fishroom, with high ambient temps, high humidity, not a whole lot of ventilation, every last tank gets fed NLS daily, with the entire room ran off of sponge filters - and no noticeable odors, what does that tell you?

Others in this discussion have told you the same thing, no funky smells from any of their tanks. (short of the TherA formula)

Yet instead of taking some responsibility for what is going on in your set up you want to blame the food? Okay, so feed something else.
The immature part is not being mature enough to accept that at least some of what is going so wrong in your set up, is due to you, not what brand of food that you are using.

I've made some suggestions to you, use them, don't, your call.
But if you want your tank to smell like perfume you best go find some fish food that has little to no marine protein & fat in it, and a whole lot of cereal.

You need better filtration.....

Ugh, ya didn't read my post thourghly either, for I said that when I feed rdead & raw marine and freshwater fish food I smell that only whenit is in the air and once in my system disapears.

What everyone saying that their nls doesn't cause a smell is I either have a bad batch or yes I have an inadequate filter system. But once again if I feed raw seafood i don't get the same smell, well I have to go with the bad batch theory. Or my nose smells a smell where others dont' or confuses one smell for a different one.

All and all I am done with NLS, I have used two different sources to get two different types/sizes and both have the same ingredients just in different quantaties. What it is that is about my system and NLS not getting along is NLS, because I have done everything in my power to fix the problem, well expect buying an over priced canister filter to contain the smell to the canister filter. But that don't get rid of the smell.

If a product causes a problem and I righty place the blame on the product that is not immaturity, its a fact I have realized after fixing everything else.

Just because the majority of people don't find a defect, doesn't mean I havent.

I started feeding my african cichlids 3mm NLS large about two weeks ago... for about 2 years prior to that i was feeding them 1mm NLS cichlid and 1mm thera A (mixed)...

the only thing I noticed different is the 3mm large are more orange in color and some small orange residues float on top of my overflow after each feed... but not too much to concern me... and i certainly do not notice any sort of bad smell from feeding them the 3mm NLS...

you probably want to revisit your filtration setup... that's probably the cause of the bad smell, definitely not NLS...

That is my experience as well. This started with the 5lb bucket of 3mm Thera +A I recently purchased from a fellow forum member. The previous 5lb bucket of the regular 3mm NLS (purchased from the same guy) didn't cause the floating residue.

I assume the floating residue from the Thera +A is excess garlic.

In addition, there is a slight fishy smell after feeding the Thera NLS. I have a large rock formation where a dead fish would go unnoticed; so I often lift the lid and smell the water in order to detect the decaying body. More than once I was shining a flash light and/or moving stones around believing someone had expired.
