Soap and filter media DO NOT mix.

It does when the media is not relied upon as bio media and is meant to capture and remove waste. so in order to be reused soap must be invovled.

I find all Hikari products do this... ugh. :irked:

If your like me though..I personally don't mind it cause I love Hikari products.

You are free to use what ever food that you find works best for your fish and setup. I just worry about the use of soap in any parts of an aquarium's filtration. Soap residue can do a lot of damage. Maybe I'm just not truly understanding your filtration setup. I just can't imagine using any kind of cleaning agent in or near my filter.

He's not saying that the soap will kill the BB, he is saying that soap residue on the media will leech into the tank and kill your fish...

Aqua - at least I took the time to go through your recent topics in an attempt to ascertain exactly what was going on. My conclusion, you are all over the map, and do not understand, or simply choose to ignore, the basics fundamentals that are needed to run a successful set up.

Agreed. 100% My dad not knowing used a dirty old sponge that had soap in it and it killed 2 Oscars. He doesn't know that much about fish, it happens. In your case, it will still kill the fish regardless.

All right, posters there is no soap residue left in the pads.

RD- Just stop already, I already know what you are, no need to continue.

Maybe you can look into getting an attachment to go onto a hose or spigot that gives you some force, and you can "power spray" the debris out of it?

Another thing to look into would be the different graded matala mat.. those rinse out really easily.

And any mod out there that wants to help, please just close and delete this thread. Most of the posts after the 3rd page have been attacks on my fish keeping, sarcastic remarks, and just plan not reading any of my posts in order to believe that Iam the bad fish keeper.

Sorry for the harsh remarks you're getting; maybe using soap in your filter just freaked some of the members out.

If I were you, I will email the manufacturer about the problems you're having about the food, and sometimes, they will comp you a new batch. If you do get a new batch, clean up the filter really well, then feed the food, and see if you're still having the problems you're having.

Hope it helps.
