I hate New LIFe Spectrum(NLS) FIsh food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks, Ill give it a try, never came to mind for some reason.

Yah, when ya wash your hands with soap and rinse properly, the soap is no longer on your hands, same with my filter pads.

The owner of NLS is hands on when the food is made, and feeds it to his own fish so if there was a "bad batch", he'd not only be the first to know, it would have never left his loading docks. They won't be comping you anything.

aqua - your best bet is feed a food that has little to no marine protein & fat, and buy a lower cost food with a high cereal/grain content.
That "fishy" smell will disappear overnight. ;)

I have a hard time believing that the owner uses the food every time a new batch is made.. unless he has a full house of tanks that he goes through bags a day.

Thanks mshill90, for some reason the owner of NLS is not posiedon, christ or buddha, but he is a human being male.

Also, do you use FRESH carbon in your filter at all? Run it in your tank, and that will help with the smell as well.

Sorry for the harsh remarks you're getting; maybe using soap in your filter just freaked some of the members out.

To say the least.

One rule of thumb in fish keeping is to never use soap on anything that will come in contact with your tank water. I always just assumed this was common knowledge. :nono:

Then you would probably have a real hard time believing that he usually tastes the food himself. :)

Not only does he have several thousand gallons worth of marine tanks in his home, with his main display tank being 10ft long, 8ft wide, and approx 4ft high, he also maintains 120 ponds (approximately 30,000 gal. each), 1500 concrete vats (250gal.-500gal. each) and several hundred 40 gal. fry tanks on his 2 five acre farms. He's been raising, breeding, and selling fish for approx 40 yrs.

Trust me, he feeds his own fish out of every batch made (there's always some waste), and it's all made on site, with him personally overseeing each step of the operation. And it's not like a bad "batch" of food involves a few hundred pounds of food, it would involve tons of food, which means that IF there was a problem, it would have been caught a long time ago, by myself & numerous others that handle 'tons' of this food at a time.

The bad batch theory is a red herring. lol

The contact page at the NLS website responds with a 403 error. I'll try again monday.

mshill90: the fresh carbon, well I had used an unopened air tight package of aquarium filter carbon, and used it but it got quickly over welmed by the NLS and stopped helping with the smell after a couple of days. And the seachem carbon in bulk is well, way too much to solve a problem that, simply not using the food would solve.

SD: are you a personal friend of the guy, if not than your relying on company propaganda.

I just wanna say haha.

And OP, I think you will get why. ;)
