I keep fish for therapy, and suggest it as such.

OCD is as defined above.

OCD is a terrible terrible terrible disease, and has nothing to do with the way the term "OCD" is used today in popular culture.

Its one of those illnesses that can't necessarily kill you, but can make even the most mundane of tasks extremely difficult.

good thread man, my fish and my daughter are the only two things i can depend on to help calm me down. i constantly find myself getting lost in thought while observing my fish and their behaviors in their enviroment and towards eachother. you have not alienated yourself at all, you have broken the ice and made it a relavant fact in our hobby/lifestyle.

i think i have that desease too :(
i like to keep my car faster and faster ad handle better than go-cart, even than im not satisfied.
at first the end of last year i have 20 G tank and now 240 and waqnts bigger :(

I'm glad you brought this up, OP..

My tanks have recently got me through one of the toughest times in my life, still present, but so much better.. There are times where I know I would have gone crazy if I didn't have something to clean, fill, feed, test... or whatever with my tanks.. While doing these things, my thought process becomes much clearer also.. Keeping fish has been beneficial to me and my family in so many ways...

that explains the desire to overfilter

Actually, I really just like the mechanics of filtration. My illness manifests itself outside of my hobbies, mostly.

I like the fact, that the cichlids will come up to the tank, when you are sitting there watching them or just going through other items. So it feels nice to be noticed by sea creatures.

Most fish keepers I know are OCD to at least some degree. I won't mention who, but someone I know now refuses to use wet/dry filters because he couldn't find enough matching pot scrubbies.
