I keep fish for therapy, and suggest it as such.

Animals in general have always brought me peace. And helped me threw the darkest moments of my life. Having a reason to get out of the bed in the morning is sometimes all it takes to change someones life.

My fish bring me a peace few things can. my pets are apart of my family as much as the humans are. my family thinks I'm crazy sometimes I'm sure. But they respect it. and often turn to me for advise for their own pets.

Case in point a friend of my wife's husband

I read this and was like Whoa Whoa Whoa! Wait a second.:naughty::naughty:
Thats what I get for speed reading...

Anyways I agree tanks help to calm the nerves in even the most difficult situations. I think its the fact that life is just so easy for them, and you sit back and just amaze yourself with it. I wish someone would constantly spend the amount of money on me that I spend on fish just for me to do what I would normally do. That'd rock :headbang2

Yep, therapy for me as well. Although I always seem to have a beer in my hand when I'm spacing out in front of the tank.

If you always have a beer in your hand (you said it) and 'spacing', I'm not sure it's the tank giving you therapeutic benefits... :D

Maybe you're right. I'll call my therapist ASAP.

I understand what you are talking about, I have diabetes, Working in my tanks or even just watching my fishes helping lowering my blood sugar level
Anyway in the last tow years my hobby kept me holding on throw: Loosing job, Loosing my father, My first child and a Revolution

Though I must admit, the hobby is insular to a degree for me, as I have so few "real life" people to talk fish with. Case in point a friend of my wife's husband happened to come by my place one night, and I discovered he kept fish - long story short - we talked fish for 2 hours like it was two minutes... :) Most times I chew the ears of local LFS employees, though those conversations don't go on to long. I look back fondly on my days growing up, as I had good friends that were in the hobby - I think back often on those summer bicycle trips to the pet shop I and entire days spent talking fish.
Thank God for sites like this! I'm in the same boat: None of my friends keep aquariums and my wife could really care less. When I go to LFS and see someone talking to employees, I always want to jump into the conversation! Usually to correct something! But I usually hold my tongue.
