thankyou all so much and yes ive bought from marine warehouse alot also and i did see the green terrors and electric blues there i just didnt no if there was anywere better i think im guna go with one of those two thankyou so much

Careful if you go with an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey they are more cowardly then regular jacks most of the time.......You want a cichlid with cichlid personality.....Flowerhorn, Texas, Green Terror.....all good ideas for a single awesome show piece fish....

FAIL!!!! Not true! EBJD are not cowardly, they were just less aggressive but still have personality. Basically any american cichlids have personalites even EBJD. Again he only wanted a single cichlid so i dont see any problems with EBJD. IMO they are better center piece fish.

I agree, the EBJD will make a stunning centerpiece fish, while they aren't as aggressive, they still have decent personalities. Also, dempsey's in general are rather skittish IME whether normal or electric blue, but they can become great centerpiece fish

IF you decide not to go with an American Cichlid have a look at the African ones. They tend to be very colorful and pretty fish. The Nimbochromis venustus was a fish I was thinking about when I was deciding between American vs. African tank. Do get a bit big so you would probably need a bigger tank. Not entirely sure on the size they need but worth a thought.

There are quite a few fish from Lake Malawi that don't get too big but are really nice looking.

55 gallons is a bit small you should just get some plants and neons a nice cichlid of any type needs a good size tank to look its best
