I need help for this Idea for Water Changing.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just purchased a transfer pump from wayne pumps. It comes with an low water suction attachment. I have not used the pump yet (arrived yesterday) but with the new attachments that I put on aqueon water changer I will unscrew the gravel vac portion of the vacuum and attach it to the transfer pump and vacuum the bottom while pumping out the water. I don't know if the pump will have enough power to attach a sprinkle but I'm sure you would be able to water garden or plants. Here is a link to the transfer pump and there is a video on the web showing the put used for aquarium water changes.
http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/495819-wayne-transfer-pump.html#.UT0O91cRurA , this pump comes in 12v or 115v. I have not tried the pump yet but I do believe that it will work. I was searching for a way to change water quicker without wasting water and this is what I came up with.

Though this seems to be an expensive alternative I will keep this in mind as well..

in case anyone is skeptical whether fish waste water is beneficial. Guess which part of my lawn gets the waste water.

LMFAO HAHAHA NO WAY... its that good? did you add fertilizers as well? or is that just bare grass and the aquarium water. Im deciding whether to lower the amount of fertilizer i should buy this year... But that looks great! How big of a tank do you have? and how do you get the water out there?

no fertilizers just grass and aquarium water...the whole lawn gets watered but the drain from my aquariums (set on drips) goes out from that little white pvc pipe you see there, into a drain and out to that portion of the lawn...that portion of the grass grows like crazy, stays green year round...like its on steriods....340gal and a 240 gal on drip system draining out to lawn. Im actually going to re-route the drain cause my lawn looks funky now

In AZ we have multiple classifications of grey water each has its own restrictions but we use reclaimed water to irrigate or lawns out here so it's counted differently than standard grey water. Additionally disposal systems vary in regulations by gallons per day sub 400gal/day is under pretty dang loose requirements. Out here they won't fine you immediately either. They will simply give you a list of things to fix in your system to make sure its safe. The idea is safe usage not "we wants us some fine money". Not saying that AZ is without corruption but we're light on water so we like to reuse it where we can. In states without that issue, I can see them being less friendly. I mean shoot the salt "river" is mostly a dry river bed until it rains.

Wow.. I'm not sure what a drink system is but it sounds complicated for a college student to make..your grass looks great though. Currently I only change a 55 but I'm getting a 275. So looking at your grass gives me high expectations after this year..

Sorry to hear about the water shortages. But I'm on the other side of the states. So we don't have any water issues except for clean water. And there is enough waste in this world as it is.. I don't want to waste all this water. So I'm I will definitely use it to water my lawn... Plus it's expensive too. I'm trying to save money on fertilizers because my parents aren't exactly happy with how our lawn looks. And we are getting a little low on our reserves of savings. So hopefully this will be a good if not better.

look it up on here, drip system...easy set up, inexpensive, maintenance free and best thing i've done to make this hobby more enjoyable to me

on the forums?

Ah i just looked it up. Unfortunately the fish tank will not be located in the basement.. and i do not want to drill any holes in my floor as I am unexperienced. Not only that but im sure my parents will not be happy. Thanks for the input though!
