Dont transfer/remove your big media sponge from the filter, use a brand new one cut in half or smaller. Stash it somewhere in your cycled filter so it gets colonized. Your current filter doesn't lose anything when you move the small piece.

Oh okay I gotcha...lol did not read your previous post correctly.

Keep looking around, too. There are some serious MFK'ers around here & there are a ton of great cycling tricks in old posts.

What diet do you all recommend for yellow labs?

Mine thrive on New life spectrum 1mm pellets. You can get them at www.kensfish.com Also another cycling trick is to lower the water level to increase water aeration which in turn colonizes beneficial bacteria faster. I also like the used sponge idea along with using stability. Also if you have an air pump put that to use the more oxygenated the water the better for cycling.

The NLS keeps my labs bright yellow and very active much moreso than the dozen other diets I tried (hikari extreme algae etetc etc) . Also you can get it cheap from pharoah or mike dunnigan on here.

Good to know because I was planning on feeding them Cichlid Gold or Cichlid Staple baby pellets.

The NLS looks good though so I am going to get my hands on some of that.

You wont regret it. 1mm cichlid formula is the way to go. Best of luck to you man you seem to have everything in order if you ever have any questions feel free to PM me. And don't forget to post pics when its done :)

i agree with the nls. i've been very happy with it, it can just be a bit difficult to find around me, so i always pick it up when i'm out of town.

I just grabbed a 5 gallon bucket from my local retailer in Sac. I was going to order it from Mike Dunnigan but the bucket was there and my fish were out of food the fish love the stuff there coloring has really popped and they are much more active :D

5 gallon bucket!!! Whoa how long does that last you?

My O's have not even finished a little 2oz. bag of Cichlid Gold mini pellets. I bought the bag about 1 month ago. (well they did get ich and didn't eat for quite a few days)

How much do baby Oscars eat? They only eat 1 or 2 mini pellets and then they don't want anymore. Every morning when they see me they come to the front of the tank and beg for food but only eat those 1 or two pellets each and then they ignore me lol.

I'm just wondering because my Pacus would eat 10-12 pellets each the last few times I fed them.
