I've never fed a moray anything that wasn't live fish or shrimp. I don't think they often eat dead food. have you tried this?

Also did you acclimate him or just dump im in salt water? I might be mistaken on what you said but did you say you purchased it as a fresh water eel?

with the exception perhaps of a new arrival or one of the more delicate species, I've never had to feed live food to any of the common hobby morays I've kept or had in a store I worked. Mine always accept fresh or frozen.
