I don't know what the craze about short bodied fish but it's just disgusting and cruel in my eyes. It's just like the olden chinese days when the ladies had to bind up their feet to make them as small as possible. is the reason why people keep SB gar so they can fit into smaller tanks??

It is NOTHING like Chinese foot binding!
this fish wasn't stunted or forced short, it is a genetic defect.
I have owned short body fish that have lived great lives.
They can have a shorter lifespan, but that's longer than a cull though huh?
People may like SB to house in smaller tanks, but me I like the "oddballness" of it.
as long as they don't select these fish to continue breeding them (which would be difficult with a gator anyway), to each their own i guess. IMO these fish should in most cases be euthanized if they cannot function properly, and they have no appeal to me (in nature they wouldn't make it past their 6 month birthday).
again, as long as the short-body craze doesn't lead to gars being crossed to generate short-bodies...whatever. these creations in other species (by selective breeding) are disgusting.--
