So earlier today I went by a petstore today to get some toys for my macaw and I go there about every 2-3 weeks to get some toys for her because they are a relatively good price. So here is the part that really kills me they have a illigers macaw there that has been there for almost 2 years one of the employees told me. This should be a species hat should be left to breeding only in my opinion since they are Cites appendix I. Then it isn't socialized at all it has pin feathers all over its head that it just looks like it needs to have a good scratch. So I asked them if I could see him and they were extremely hesitant about it and the employee said she didnt know how to handle birds so I got it out and surprisingly it stepped up pretty easily but it was still freaked out biting me and squeaking but after a little bit it did calm down. So now I feel very guilty I saw this guy that really needs a home but I really dont have the money(it cost $920 for the bird alone) or space for it and I would have to convince the family too and all of this would be hard after just getting my little girl 1.5 months ago. Moral of the story only bird specialty stores should sell big birds. Sorry about the rant I am just really frustrated and depressed about this.
What would any of you do?
