I saw my first Trimacs at Petsmart today

Some people have no sense of humor.:D In the original spirit of the thread has anyone figured out what exactly the trimacs are?

I just made a run to my Petsmart and noticed a few things you might find amusing... First off, they had "three-spot cichlids" that were beat all to hell. They were selling them for $9 at 2". But, and a big BUT, they were flowerhorns, not trimacs. Some showed blue scales all over their body. Secondly, their info card said a red snook cichlid maxes out at 8" and were selling a 3" fish for 30 bucks. I've seen snook at 16 or 18". But this is what store bashers thrive on... so flame on.

Where was the store? Ours are 7.99. Wondered what exactly they were, having never seen one. And yes, red snook max out at 8" if kept properly. Yes it is sad. I disagree with alot of corporate policy, it is only when people bash every worker just because they are there that I get a little irate. So as far as card info, please bash, flame, etc. I just wish people who could make a difference saw these things.

Trinity, Fl. And do you mean improperly? Red Bay Snook Cichlids get huge 18-20" for males and 12" for females. At eight inches they aren't halfway there. I don't bash employees at these stores as this kind of job is a learning experience for a lot of people that work there. Years ago I worked at Petsupermarket and learned a lot from my customers. I lose respect for those workers who think they know everything and just spew out untruths without doing research. Those people kill a lot of fish, and break a lot of little kids hearts... and make their parents angry.

I think at the size they sell them though you could definitely house them in a 30 gallon tank for a while. In fact I found it hard to get their cichlids to eat food when I brought them home to a 75 gallon, since most of the cichlids they sell are about an inch. I bought a severum from there that must have been barely one inch.

I think their cards are flawed as they don't warn you about how big of a tank size you will need in the near future.

Yes I know this. I guess sarcasm and low key humor don't work well for me on a keyboard. That line killed them in person. I also stated that I disagree with alot of corp. policy and think most of the card info is simply designed to sell more fish. How many people are going to buy that cute little two inch pacu if you tell them up front, requires hundreds of gallons. Not good for business. That's where honest employees step in and kill 99% of those sales. Yay for the good guy. The rest of what you said I agree with 100%.

Hate to say it...ours are DEFINETLY FLOWERHORNS. The dominant one is developing a splotchy black line all the way across his side. The other two are getting pretty tattered...shame they really should have sent us like 12 if they wanted them to actually co-exsist.

Sorry if it didn't come off that way. After a couple people that were just in, I just had to say something to relieve my stress. :nilly:
