I saw my first Trimacs at Petsmart today

Im so glad I havent got a WalMart and Petco etc in Australia. But we do have a chain store that actually sells good looking fish and has some... Yes SOME knowledge of fish. But thankfully, nearly every petshop is not a chain. I may be only 13 but Im sure I could outsmart most employes.
The biggest aquarium near me has an owner who thinks you dont need to change your water. He said to me in these excact words.
Me "My step-dad wants to know how long between water change intervals"
I already know this crap, just wanted to act dumb.
Owner "Well I have a 4ft African cichlid and I havent needed to change the water in over 12 months."
Me "Do you ever test your water?"
Owner "Why would I need to do that?"

Mystix he probably just wants you to take poor care of your fish so you have to keep buying new ones.

If Petco told everyone they need 75g tanks for each fish, I don't think they'd sell too many fish. Buying fish is like buying a car, gotta do ya research.

The girl at mine said a 55 would be needed for a Trimac at first. It was only when I said I only have a 30 that she said it might be ok. I think she thought she might lose a potential sale if she just flat out said no it won't work. When instead she should handle it something like, "Well no the Trimac will grow far too big for your 30 gallon tank sir, but I can help you find an awesome fish that would thrive in your tank. Both you and the fish will be much happier". What's wrong with that?
Cuz it take brains to think like that,notice how no matter where you go from petsmart to homedepot all you get is some teenager that don't know jack
