It seams with theses big cats it’s a battle of extremes you get the people with them in a 2 ft tank and have not got a clue (the store that sold them the fish is as equally to blame) and then you have this lot telling you to build a shark tank. I was at the London aquarium last week in one of there tank it has 5 or 6 RTC 1 very large TSN and a shed load of Pacus the note on the aquarium reeds all of theses fish have been donated to the aquarium and have out grown there tanks please be responsible when purchasing tropical fish. If people took note of this and came on sites like this before hand it would be a lot better for the fish and the aquarist. O how big is big boy now Cliff. And a pic of the wife at the London Aquarium(sorry taken with phone).
Those are pretty big and so is that TSN.

Oh yeah and the big boy is a touch over 36" stotty.

Nice i like this one this was a rod caught RTC shame you cant see all f it :D

Here's a few pics of ones I found. They claim that the new world record of 121 lbs was caught right there in thailand. I was not able to find pics of that particular one though.

I think Sandee's Threat clears up that world record thing ;)

Which thread? I'm talking about the world rod and reel record. The official wild caught record is 150 lbs. The rod and reel is like 120 something. The pic stotty put up is the current record for rod and reel.

My Bad LOL ... that'll teach me to skim through a thread

I was talking about record sized RTC... i think that 5' 3" beast is more than 150... it's 2 inches longer than the 150 pounder

If you look closely at it though it's not nearly as thick. I doubt it weighs 150. Going over record sized fish today and yesterday shows me that even at the same lenght the same species can vary greatly in wieght. There was some state record carp that wieghed 40 lbs at like 38", and then there was some that were 44" and only wieghed 33 lbs. This rtc was certainly not small, but based on the girth I would estimate it around 120-130 lbs. Not a small fish in any case just not as heavy as it would seem based on length. Length is very subjective. The current rod and reel record that the thais are trying to claim is actually a bit longer at 5' 3.5", but the wieght is still in the 120s. Sorry not trying to argue maybe it's like dave chapell's when keeping it real goes wrong lol. Please don't backlash and kill me. lol. :D If we could get a good estimate on the girth I can provide a better estimate. If that fish is 5' 3" long then it's width would be around 13" wide and if you think of it in terms of a circle it would have a 41.5" girth. That is actually giving it something extra cause in reality the cross section would be an oval and not a circle which would mean it would have less mass than a full circle. This equation that I used gave me 135.6 lbs here's the equation
Length x Girth² ÷ 800 This is a general equation that is excepted for determining the wieght of fish from just the girth and length. I actually plugged this info into a few catfish calculators and got weights from 78 lbs up to 123 lbs. I believe the one above is the more accurate. This is just a rough estimate, but using the same calculations as I did above I came up with 154 lbs for the picture I posted on here. Not doubting anything, and maybe I just over analyz, but I try to get accurate info.

In the end though about 15-20 years from now I will have the world record one in my tank lol.
