I think he means put the filter media, the insert, from your old filter, in the new filter. If it's still running, that would be great, but if it's not, that's not going to help.
 
hybridtheoryd16 the guy at the fish store had told me that if i put my water from my ten gallon tank into the 20 then let the water sit for a day and use conditioner the tank should be ready for new fish right away...............

ive done this but you need an established filter as well.
 
unless its in a bucket of water... too late... adding your old filter to the new tank along with the new filter should help in the future... however the lack of cycling may be an issue...
pick up a liquid test kit (API master kit- $20-$25)

any chance of getting pics of the "sucker fish".... theres a chance this fish could be your biggest problem in the future...

Right now the tank is not overstocked assuming the water changes are large/often...just make sure the tank is cycled, otherwise it won't make a difference
