Yesterday I saw a 20"+ Dovii in person for the first time. Let me tell you he was spectacular. He was only 6-7" longer than mine but at least twice as thick too. I was trying to imagine him fitting into my tank. After much thought, I know for sure I won't be able to house mine when he gets that big. Mine is already trying to break the glass and lids at his present size with his super aggression. I think it was chc who said that's a sign of him being in too small a tank. Selling him will also make my wife happy. She's a housewife and stays home most of the time. She nags me that he's constantly banging the glass so hard and has been trying to get me to trade him out. I guess I'm going back to a community setup.

So....anyone want a super bad Dovii?

You've just crushed my dreams. lol. I'm sorry to hear about you selling him but I wanted to get a dovii and now you're saying that 265G is too small! My condo is on the second floor and not only would it be impossible to get a tank bigger than that upstairs...... Even if I did, I'm afraid it would crash through the floor.

Mine lives in an 18" pipe and hangs out the front and back an inch or so on each side, so the best I can figure is 20"ish! No way I'm going to try to lay that beast on a tape! :naughty:

At least I know the pipe is 18"...... Pipes don't bite!

How about a picture of him in the pipe? :naughty:

Sorry for crushing your dreams. I actually bought him on impulse....(I'm a big Parachromis fan). I traded in several very nice fish for him and brought him home one day without getting any opinions or asking any questions. After posting his pics a number of people, many I hold in high regard, told me I would eventually need a bigger tank. I remember thinking, 'well he sure looks fine to me' haha. Oh well, there's still plenty of excellent fish that can be kept long term in a 265.

I may try to get some new shots tonight, I always catch flack from the "fat fish patrol" that is why I have not posted pictures lately.

:ROFL:That's funny. Nice thread reverse. Your Dovii does have some serious mass.

Wow! Barton777, that is a nice Dovii, very active, I am surprised that he allow the others (festae) to live in his tank. I hope you can find him a good home.

Thanks. And you know that video is from last year.....I can't put cichlids in with him any more. I recently moved him into my 156g tank. The only thing in with him now are some little 4" spotted silver dollars, two big bichirs and a striped raphael cat. He chases the SD's around, ignores the bichirs completely and you never see the raphael.

AWESOME~
p.s buy the wife something to side track her..
and i just found out DOVI bang glass for attention sometimes

She just don't like him, he scares her. :screwy:

Her argument is that I'll eventually have to rehome him anyway and it's just going to be that much harder if I wait.

and Super she already has one.
