My trigger was a water change and bloodworms/raw shrimp instead of their normal pellets. I've heard the fry amount per egg laying gets larger as the convicts get larger than 2", so expect to see even more of you've got smaller cons.
Thanks guys. They spawned Christmas eve and i took the last of the fry out about 2 weeks ago. I started feeding frozen brine and did a couple big water changes and they went right back at it. The female wants to spawn every week but the male needs triggers. I'd say about a month between spawns. I'm sure they'd go faster if I kept triggering them but I want to give the female time to get her weight back up between spawns.
It's kinda funny I got them to breed feeders and now they're some of my most personable fish. The male never beats up the female. They just coexist peacefully and do a great job raising babies. They even let tetras live in close proximity to their fry. I lucked out and got some of the friendliest convicts ever I guess.
my convicts would breed so much it was a nuisance.
wouldnt own these fish again, but some people are fanatics. all the best.
heard of stories of convicts breeding in plastic bags on the way home from a fish store.
crazy fish.
