Ick and arowana...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I've got a tetra 100 on a 12 inch airstone and the gang valve is wide open. I have studied rather thoroughly, the biggest reason I contacted you was I couldnt find anything arowana specific on their tolerance for salt and temps (in extreme situations like this treatment of ich). In which your experience has been a HUGE help and for that I thank you.

Quick update, I did manage to get him to eat two very small pieces of krill before turning the lights off in his tank. appearance about the same, I will be headed to my lfs sometime tomorrow to get some pinhead crickets (they did the trick the last time he went on hunger strike, and prolly some garlic oil) I'm off to have a beer:chillpill:... I'll give another update tomorrow in the pm. Thanks guys.

very good.... let us know... ;)

Well some good news is that the lil guy hasnt developed any new spots, and the ones he has should be dying off pretty soon. He's still eating very little, and he has begun to slightly open and close his mouth but I am assuming this is because of the scarcity of oxygen at these temps. I will continue treatment for the next 2 1/2 weeks with the salt and maybe lower the temp a degree or two in a week? Just curious about the temp its at 86 now and I am wondering if that high is neccessary just wondering. The gasping seems like another sign of stress to me...

How is he tonight... hope doing okay.... i hope he isn't gasping anymore... hope improvement is coming soon...let us know.

Well crickets are the ticket, he ate like 5-6 pin head (tiny ones) and is still gasping. The spots are huge now and seem to be more numerous. I hope that the temp/salt has irradicated any chances of new parasites and that these are just the unseen parasites maturing. If he doesnt look any better tomorrow I will begin chemical treatment.. (myacin green) I have had success with this before and it would allow me to drop the temperature and hopefully stop the constant opening and closing of his mouth (what I call gasping). thanks everyone for your support and thoughts as I go through this "trying" time as a hobbyist. Never really cared this much about any other hobby that I have taken up, and I guess it means I'm hooked:D:D:D Lets just hope that some of the spots have fallen off by the morning, I'm not really sure that he will tollerate 86 degrees much longer... Thanks again.

well i always feel better when i hear they are eating..that means they are keeping their stength up and fighting...i hope he continues to fight...and hope as you say he is less gasping in the am.. i would not want to see that either.. let me know tommorrow when you get a chance..you know we have you in our thoughts and sending good wishes...

He is showing signs of improvement this morning. If I hadnt been staring at him for the past three days I would'nt be able to tell but still a step in the right direction. The temp is the reason for the gasping i guess but he nailed 4 tiny crickets this morning and seems to be less groggy.
