Maybe Firemouth thats REALLY Stressed

it was a fire works box... lol just something to keep him off the carpet and something to keep him in if he flopped around during the 30 secs it took to take the pic.
Okay, let me rephrase the question: why would you take a live fish out of the water just to take a picture; which, btw, is not even helpful for identification purposes? :screwy:

To those saying pure firemouth: you are wrong. Notice the complete lack of the prominant black spot on the gill plate, which you would see on any mature firemouth that doesn't have some kind of pigment mutation.

I originally thought Robertsoni and still do. They have the same body shape as a Thorichthys. As already stated, No mark on gillplate=NO Thorichthys.

That last picture definitely looks convict to me. Maybe a convict x some amphilophus hybrid, def no firemouth or JD.

I saw robertsoni at a local LFS and thought it was a type of firemouth. It had yellow/orange in the body and blue spangling in the fins. This fish struck me as being very similar to robertsoni, at least in shape and the blue flecks in the fins.

Excuse me for being ignorant about CA cichlids, but what types of cichlids will firemouths hybridize with? Can you actually cross a JD and a firemouth?
