I'm just tired of surprises. There was a bucket hung on the fence a few days ago with a common pleco and a pacu in it. Didn't find it in time and they were both dead.

do people just drop off fish at your house because they don't want itI'm just tired of surprises. There was a bucket hung on the fence a few days ago with a common pleco and a pacu in it. Didn't find it in time and they were both dead.
I get them pretty frequently. (4 or 5 a yr) Its a big neighborhood and anyone driving or walking thru sees my garage door open. Its hard to miss all the tanks. I've had them left on the porch, hung on the fence, bags stuffed in the mail box, and left on the drive way. Granted most rescues I get come from fish geek friends who refer owners to me. I fix up and adopt out what I can. Except common plecos. I euth those right off the bat. They get huge, too often attack other fish, and they are almost impossible to rehome. I'd have nothing but CPs everywhere if i didnt refuse them.do people just drop off fish at your house because they don't want it
Thank you for the info. I'm not a fan of hybrids either. In plain terms its a mongrel and you have no idea what you've got lol. I've been trying to read up on these and the interwebs is not my friend right now.Definitely a hybrid and I would also assume there is some heritchthys in the mix. You will never know exactly what the mix is for sure.
Typically, and in my experience, large heritchthys like carpintis or cyano can be very aggressive and males can take over a tank. If you do try to introduce it to tank mates, I would stay on guard with a divider.
Sexing this fish will be difficult without venting. Female texas normally display a dark dorsal blotch that is faint or absent in males. As a lot of natural traits used for Sexing may be lost in the mix of this hybrid.
Fish like this often make very interactive and entertaining pets. I'm not a fan of hybrids but it could turn out to be a very attractive and likeable character.
why do you euthanize common plecos immediately? Just take them to a lfs, a local aquarium, or to the Ohio Fish Rescue if you live close enough. You could just keep them in rubbermaid tubs until you can rehome them

You can't save everything honey. My LFSs get large CPs in all the time that dont sell. They just waste away because they arent fed and housed properly. There are no large fish rescues near me. There are 4 other keepers near me that take in unwanteds but nothing big for the most part. Sad fact of the matter is that once an average hobbyist finds out that CPs arent the helpful community cleaner fish that the LFS talked them into, they ditch them. It's not fair. But if you are going to rescue you have to learn to focus on what you know you can help amd has a good probability of being rehomed. You cant save them all and you can't keep them all.why do you euthanize common plecos immediately? Just take them to a lfs, a local aquarium, or to the Ohio Fish Rescue if you live close enough.
