The reason it doesn't look like a Herichthys (shape wise) is the genes for shape of whatever it is mixed with, are dominant, while the genes for color from the Herichthys are dominant.

Thank you. I do respect where white spectre is coming from. Its not like I enjoy euthing. I wish I didnt have to but it's not "rescuing" an animal if you can't feed and house it properly. I get so many CPs that I would be overwhelmed coz they just don't get adopted. Ever watch an episode of Hoarders? I wish they would phase commons out too. I favor BNs myself.
I love the name Vincent but we can't name it untill it finishes quarentine. Its bad luck. It seems like every time I name one before it finishes, it dies.
It could have a little flowerhorn or Midas in it, also what do you think is the most humane way to euthanize fish?

its definitely a texas cichlid mixed with something and my first instinct was jack dempsy but after looking up pictures i dont think thats right. really gorgeous fish
I just noticed the post about looking like "Starry night cichlid".
There are a number of species associate with the name "Starry night cichlid" at least 5 species in the Genus Paratilapia.

I use clove oil to euth. On the rare occasion I've been out of clove oil I will crush the head with a sharp blow. That is the fastest way but my least favorite. I dont run out of clove oil... Lets put it that way.
