ID SHARK GROWOUT THREAD

I may be wrong but isn't a 225 to small for these guys? Even though they get around 2-3 feet, they are CONSTANTLY moving fish and need lots of space to move around because they could damage themselves by running into the glass (many ID sharks get easily scared...).

my glass is pretty damn thick and you will be extremely lucky to find an ID shark over 14" in captivity, they have a potential to get huge but tend to never really reach this. Besides I already have 2 albino Pacu the size of dinner plates and they are more than fine with the 3ft width

Im gonna tell you now that your pacu 100% need a way bigger tank even for one of them. If you think that a pacu can live in a 225 for life you are either crazy or just denying the fact that you are simply wrong. I have personally seen a 4-5 foot pacu and many other 3 footers and the standard base for tank sizes for large fish that i use is the width should be twice the fish legnth... So you need a 6 foot wide minimum...

i got my id sharks to eat by feeding them cichlid pellets then once they settled in I started them on other foods.

Yeah I think so too. I got mine from Petsmart and I also got my Senegal there too. She is a female and appears to be done growing at 8".

How do you know yours is a female... and there is NO way that is is done growing at 8 inches... thats just stunted... or maybe the reason why they usually only get 14 inches is cause they slow down alot after 8 inches and people stunt them so an already slow growing fish is stunted and growing even slower... also they could just die cause of small tank before they become monsters...

Thats my theory...

Oh, i'm sorry. I just reread your last post that indicated they were in a 220 and they could NOT be stunted in there (at least not at 8 inches...) But in an earlier post, you clearly stated "MINE HAVE STOPPED EATING". Do you think that maybe THAT is why they have stopped growing???

what type of cichlid pellets? (i mean, what brand are they???)

Not to derail, but I have a question, I just boguth an ID Shark off a member from here thats around 12", he claimed it was around 3 years old. I know that is pretty small compared to how big i imagine they would be atround that age. It was in a 220g for most of its life from what i know, so it should be badly stunted. Do some just not reach thier monster size?
Hey, You're from Maryland to! LOL, I just don't find many people one here that are from maryland like me XD
ANYWAYS, do you know where the ORIGINAL owner got they're shark? was it a petsmart one??? Maybe it is'nt as old as he said... or just a dwarf of some type...

I've never personally seen one hit 2'. Much like the petsmart Senegals, I think the size has been bred out of the cheap ones.

I'm sorry but, I'm gonna HAVE to disagree... My friend got his from petsmart and it got 2 foot in a 20 gallon (i told him the tank was to small the thing could not even turn around... SAD.) Also, a employee at my petsmart told me that he got HIS there and it got 3 foot in his 75 (again... ABUSE!) But the cheap ones CAN get big...
