More water changes, clean out old food and keep temp up at 80. Looks like you've got some ammonia (greenish) and nitrate is high. Use Seachem Prime with water changes. Old food causes ammonia spikes. You want ammonia at 0, bright yellow.

Sometimes it's easy to get lulled to sleep because some fish are less sensitive to water chemistry than others. But bad chemistry will cause health and behavior issues (and kill appetite).

Increasing the frequency of your water changes will keep the ammonia and nitrates under control.

What is your current schedule? Size of tank? When you have ammonia and high nitrates don't wait. Get that clean water in asap! :cool-1:

It’s a 125 gallon And since they’re still small and not that messy I do 15-25 gallon every other week

Tank size is good. What concerns me is why you have ammonia and high nitrate, so something isn't adding up. Strongly suggest you do a weekly water change. Also, make sure you get the muck out of the filter and substrate. This will also spike bad water parameters. Once those O's start growing they will need larger and larger water changes. At around 6" you will need to do 50% weekly. At a foot you will need fin level changes once a week at least. No way of getting around it because O's make a lot of waste (both pee and poo). This is why weekly testing is important so you can gauge how much you need to change and when. Your o's will have best growth and health with lots of clean water. This is major grow time for those babies so give them the best! Think in terms of total inches of fish in your tank. Adult O's can weigh 2-3 lbs. Dats a lotta fish!

Get the ammonia to 0, and keep nitrates below 20 and you should be good. :grinyes:

Yea, I always vacuum up every thing when I do water changes, and yes Oscar’s are piggies when it comes to eating!! Which is why I got 2 Fluval fx6 to help out a bit.

Filters dont help with nitrates. The amount of water changes are too low for 2 oscars. Get used to doing 100% water changes over the course of 7 days if you want 2 healthy oscars.

Oh I will once bigger. The amount I’m doing now is just fine for 2, 3-4.5 inch Oscar’s. They’re still juvies and are not as messy. Now when they’re adults or about to be, that’s a different story, this isn’t my first rodeo with Oscar’s lol .

Once a week water changes. Your current parameters are a warning. Those 'cute' little o's will be 6-8 inches before you know it. Your water schedule isn't enough. If you get a pond pump with the python you can easily do a change of 50% for a 125 total 45 minutes. Once a week investment. Good luck, I've said all I can.

Love how people come on here looking for advice, get advice and proceed to reject/ignore it because they think they know what they're doing.
