Crush - I hear where you are coming from, but if you find random photos of fish like this one, they will also be hybrids.
True Texas are a flat gray, with white dots all over, with the black markings you see in this fish.

Lol.

Here's a Texas: http://i1321.photobucket.com/albums/u542/biggienlittle/_MG_7429_zps78d5df15.jpg

You see where I'm going with this right?

That's cool and all but I breed texas hybrids. I also don't want to argue because I don't know... but that tex looks like a texas hybrid. The flash could have something to do with why we think its a hybrid, but can you do us(or me) a favor and post a few pics of some pure bred texas cichlids that look like this one? That will back up what your saying better than your posts of just words...

This is pure bred.... There's nothing in this fish that says hybrid it has 100% Texas characteristics

Yep definitely not a JD, but that's ok and I'm female lol. Ended up going over Sunday and brought him home, more gray in person that it was in the pics but still a beautiful fish. Also snagged an Oscar from them as they had 5 Oscars in a 125 with the Tex plus various other fish. When I get home tonight I'll see if I can get some good pics of my new Texas.
