8"-10" "Banded Knife" ... Anyone got a latin? I'm guessing hes a Carpo? But a lot of the black/striped look a lot alike to me?

Looks like a carapo (Zebra knife). Not a 100% sure however. Nice fish BTW.

someone else suggested a tigre... /le sigh lol... On one hand would be nice if hes about full grown already so he can stay in the 40B.. on the other if he got 2' that would be pretty sweet as well..lol
That's a pretty knife, for sure a fan of these types of knives over knives like CKs either way a great addition to a tank mini!

Nice pickup. Best of luck with a proper ID. I can tell you that it's definitely not a G. Carapo or a G. Tigre.
As you said, many of these species look very similar. It looks very similar to my G. Coatesi too, except the lines on my G. Coatesi are thinner. It will be nice to see my G. Coatesi at a good 10" to see how the bars turn out. My best guess is the same as Oddballfanatic; G. Pedanopterus, but it's only a guess.

Thanks Guys =) I'm just wondering if I need to plan for a big tank in the next few years or if the 40b or 75 will be sufficient.. I'm actually hoping for once this is one of the smaller species. So far he seems to be eating mainly blackworms I haven't noticed a dent in the minnows yet, If he leaves them alone I may swap them out for some platies or guppies to bring some color/action to the tank during the day. He's been extreamely active at night and extreamely recluse during the day ( as to be expected) Any suggestions for some colorful tank mates? The tank is upstairs in the living room so I'de like to have some movement during the day other then just a nice planted scape. most of what I had in the tank was fairly aggressive, and I haven't put my banjo catfish back in yet... do you think he'll leave them alone or be digging them up constantly like our dolphin did?
I wouldn't expect this fish to get over 12-14". Some of the larger tetra species may work well, and I think the Banjo Cat would work too. My G. Coatesi didn't touch the White Clouds that I had in the tank (maybe two or three a month), but they killed off the slower moving Guppies. I think that Amazon Leaf Fish would make a great addition or maybe one of the Ctenopoma species. I'd pick a mini predator or two that don't harass tankmates. I tried a Beta, but the knife did a number on its fins, so I had to move it.
The bars are too straight and clean to be G. Carapo.
