IDEAS on potential Tank size for CENTRALS set-up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the other thing to remember is that all of these threads are used as reference at some point. Many people search older threads for information instead of starting a new thread with every single question or thought. I think that is why it is important to provide the correct information in these threads. It's not really helpful to say things that are wrong just to appease others. There's always someone to jump on a thread and say,"It's your tank. If you want to keep a Midas in a 10 gallon with a Jack Dempsey, and three Convicts go right ahead. No one knows what will happen for certain." That may be a bit of a stretch but people do say similarly absurd things and expect others members to say nothing. Foolish advice on these threads can get people into bad situations with their fish and aquariums. We have to show some kind of responsibility to others looking for help with their cichlids. A lot of the info on this particular forum is based on a consensus of knowledgeable hobbyists and vendors. There are some things about tank requirements, water parameters, and individual species that have been documented and proven by many others. Many members, including MODS, will agree on matters because of this. But with so many people frequenting this forum there are bound to be disagreements. That is certainly understandable. We all should make the effort to provide the best information possible to provide people with sensible and credible answers.

Cyberman, I think this is the case with most of your threads. I don't think any MODS are singling you out. Threads just become pointless when they turn into ugly fights with childish name calling. That will get any thread locked down. I commend you on the cichlids that you keep. They always appear healthy and colorful. I think you're doing a good job with your collection. I know that you also disagree with certain things that many other members agree about. I don't expect us all to agree on everything. It's all in how you handle and address these disagreements, even with members that may make the task difficult at best. People will have their own opinions and we just have to live with that.

I agree that the stock mentioned in this thread will be difficult to keep together long-term. If things turn bad, I'm sure you have the means to take appropriate actions.

All Hail Lord Firemouth!!:p

Yeah very good.... How old are you?

If I remember correctly your thread was closed not because of mods being out to get you but because of all the arguing. Heated topics don't last long. As far as that thread goes, you did play your part in getting it closed. Senior members who know quite a bit telling you something and you in some ways telling them
they are wrong will start an argument. If you are not willing to listen to advice why bother asking questions in the first place?

You know what - that thread didn't teach me anything other than knowing that theres a lot of opinions and some of them aren't toleranted as much as others... Thats what that discussion taught me. If you don't buy your fish from someone known to this site its not legit.... However, in this case, I just wanted to let the guys know I'm getting a 240 gallon Tank... I was not asking any questions!!!! and the only fish I don't know much about is the ExCichlasoma istlanum... and I agreed it wouldn't be included. So people aren't reading my threads right and starting to throw insults at me!

Your rules say members should be treated with respect... I don't think calling me Lord Firemouth or being accused of having hybrid Thorichthys is exactly respectful..., so are you going to punish these guys... somehow I doubt it :shakehead

People reading these threads will see a lot of different opinions to be honest... but theres a difference between having an opinion and articulating it in a nice way and someone lecturing you and unsulting you if you don't appear to be agreeing with them.

You're very right of course when you say if things turn bad I will move fish to different tanks... I'm not going to let them all kill eachother like someone was suggesting on here :screwy:

Then that's all you can do. If you are determined to try it, try it. Make sure you are prepared for the worst at all times because just because it works for 6 months doesn't ever mean that it won't change and possibly over night. I see both sides of the bench on this thread and there are things that both sides could do to keep things civil. But I don't think anybody was just attacking you. It can be very frustrating giving advice day after day as some of these guys do, to have it ignored completely, and then find out a bunch of fish were killed. You can only push that a side for so long before it gets to you. I've seen many of your threads and you do have healthy happy looking fish. But that doesn't mean that you just aren't showing the battered ones. But I doubt it. That's the problem with public forums is all the information gathered is just what is revealed by the op 95% of the time. Guys and gals with a lot of experience have to still assume that there may be stuff they don't see or hear and give their best advice and hope for the best.

But I do agree that more should be done to try and keep things as civil as possible because all the negativity does drive people away, most of the time people that could really use the advice. So for the sake of the hobby let's strive to do our best to get along!:)
Good luck!

Think the opinions are a good "general" rule, that said I wouldn't keep any females in an aggressive community, iv had big tuff fish never cause a problem but once paired go crazy, then stay dominant and aggressive after females are removed.

I personally love my community, all males, but may not work if I wasn't way overstocked ,

Cyberman, I personaly know fishman, we have met on several occasions, he is a stand up, easy going, and knowlagable guy. I highly doubt he would troll threads, with negitive intetnitons. As far as stock goes, this is what this thread is about right, I have kept young dovii with meeki for short periods of time. I would never suggest doing it log term, and my case may have been an exception, but it just goes to show that there are so many possiblities. And as you, or any other cichlid keeper knows, every fish, setup, and stocklist can cause a different outcome. I always say "try it, but keep a close eye". And this would go with anything, even a species tank of rainbow cichlids. Because you just simply do not know untill you try it. Obviously, we have to use common sence, and I think that researching threads and profiles will give you a good idea of what may or may not work. Again, happy fish keeing.

Have a look at most of my threads and you'll see him jumping down my throat almost every time... He must be like a different person when trapped behind the keyboard... like a roadhog at the wheel of a car.... all nasty and negative a rude.

I was going to post in this thread early on, but then thought "Na, he'll disagree and just do what he wants to anyways".

Sorry being so silly in your thread op, if you cant just do what you want with your own tank.......
