Thank you, that makes sense. The shape and eye color are definitely reminiscent of Vieja.
Well, as an update, I went back for him and he was gone. The lady at the store knows me a bit because I trade in my homebred cichlids for store credit, and she was beside herself. She was like, “I really wish I knew you were coming for him and I would have put him on hold. Some guy came in yesterday and bought him for an 8000 gallon pond and he commented that he hoped he’d survive all the other aggressive fish he was putting him in with.” So now I feel bad I didn’t go back sooner. Hope he manages to fend for himself in his new home.
