Identifying EBJD Fry

I missed did you cross ebjd to a bgjd or bgjdx bgjd. If it was the latter of the 2 your non ebjd will be roughly 25 percent bgjd and 50 percent regular jd. If this is the case just label them jd's it will save you some trouble if you wish to sell them. If not would like to see a pic of your ebjd male congrats on the fry.

For some reason I'm having a heck of time getting my ebjdxbgjd pair to spawn again....it's been a long time, and I've tried everything I can think of but I still have high hopes for him! Now that I think of it, he never spawned with a bgjd. Any thoughts?

Im no expert at JD genetics but wouldn't you get 50% BGJD and 25% normal JD with a BGxBG cross?

To the OP great thread, I recently have a spawn from my new BGxBG pair and am hoping for the same success

Thanks! And congrats on your spawn. And if I'm correct I believe from bgxbg the resulting spawn should be 25%ebjd, 25%bgjd, and 50%wild-type jd

Have you tried adding some salt to your tank. My wife added a cup of salt to a 65g tank and our ebjd and bgjd finallly spawned. For a fish that is supposed to be easy to breed we have had a tough time with ours too. We put bgxbg pair in a 90 with abunch of other fish and now they are spawning like there is no tomorow go figure.
I guess they just have to feel comfy in their surroundings but do try the salt may urge them on.

Thanks...although I've never heard EBJD's were easy to breed. Salt is a good idea! I haven't tried that in awhile!

Yes, I start them on fresh hatched bbs, then I have a diy powdered food I begin feeding after about a week. Basically just a mixture of high protein cichlid foods that I powderize in an electric coffee grinder.

So I thought I'd share this clever idea I thought of(at least I thought it was). Basically I've always wanted to be able to put more filtration on my fry tank. I've never been a big fan of sponge filters, and hob's create far too much current and obviously can potentially suck your fry up! So basically I took a hob filter, added a sponge to the intake and basically a catch pan to disperse the water more slowly. Seems to be working great so far! Not the greatest pic but this is the top of the tank with a Tupperware dish under the hob. I drilled holes in the bottom so the water slowly leaks out
