My retarded friend has a Jardini.. In a 24"x9"x12" tank.. The Jar is about 7" and has been in the tank for about 6 months with no prob...

Except for the stunting.

Well, the tank I wanted is 72L x 24W x 25T...it is a 180 wide, and from Glass cages, they are going to be in Chicago on the 15th and I planned on getting it then...Unfortunately my 75 just spung a leak in the bottom, and I will have to go first thing in the morning to Springfield and end up buying the 150g they have there..not sure the dimensions on it, so for now I guess my Arowana will have to wait.

It has been a VERY bad day in "G land", I spent the entire day moving stock and decore around between a 30g (emptying to make a sump with) my 55 and my 75, went to a meeting and came home and out of nowhere my 75 was leaking...it being 8:30pm on a Sunday night...there was nowhere to go and get a tank to replace it, so I have 2 five gallon buckets under it catching the water...emptied them once already added more water to the tank, and will continue this till morning when I can drive to the LFS (about 45 minutes away) and get the 150 they have in stock, so I can come home and move crap around again before going into work:irked:.

Really I wasn't sure what kind I wanted at this point, I just know I like them and knew I was getting a 180...well WAS:(, so I thought I'd find out if it was even possible before I went looking into them more and getting all excited!! I will be able to get the tank I want but it will now be a few more months...Oh well, at least my Oscar is getting a bigger tank!!

Thanks for the reply guys!!:)

I'd say at least a 240. these things get big, especially the silvers

Maybe it's just me but isn't that a bit OTT, i mean if a fish needs such a mssive investment would it not be better to leave them in the wild? where do you draw the line?

That's 8ft by 3ft by 2ft, the glass would need to be 3cm thick. that's just too much!
Again, don't take it the wrong way but if you've got to go to that much trouble with such a massive amount of money, just leave the fish in the river.

LOL a 240 is like 8x2x2 and could be made from 10-12mm glass...

for silvers,i'd get something with a 3 foot width,at least a 8 foot length.
for life.
jars or asians i'd get around a 2 feet width, and a 6 feet length for life.

Ok, I need to know if I were to get a Arowana what is the size tank I am going to need? Would a 180 be good or would I need something bigger???

glasscages 300 gallon 96"x30"x24" although can be argued should be good basically for life and is 900$ cant beat the deal...

It's called a hobby. Ppl will invest in anything which they like and which they feel worth it. Thus there's no right nor wrong.

And as for 3cm thickness for 8 footer tank... yes that's alittle over do it.
