I heard of this before ....it happened at Shark Aquarium
.....and it might have been this duo. They have probably done it a few times at different locations.

Yeah, but you live in tropical land where you don't even have heat your tanks, right? And aren't these fish farmed in your country? The cost of breeding and keeping tropical fish in much of the world is higher due to heating costs and shipping fees.
Species native to my area are also dirt cheap, but nobody likes them for some reason.

RTC can cost from 40 to 60 dollars here, which seems really steep for a fish that can easily eat its own weight every day and is soon unwanted.

Yes, I think most people have thought about the process of stealing a fish. I mean, to catch a criminal you have to know how to think like criminal. Pretending you lack the intellect needed to pull off a petty crime isn't impressing anyone. Doing the mental math and considering potential plans for theft only makes you more prepared to defend your property, it doesn't make you a criminal. Adhering to moral standards and recommending strong consequences is a great angle, though, and I hope justice is served.

In my area, about $25/ea for the RTC, and maybe $40-50 for the aro. I guess it depends on whether there were 5 fish or 6. The op has conflicting info.
they are around 30-35 for a RTC in seattle at about 4" and 40-80 for small 6" silver or jardini.
Only seen one black aro and it was about 16" long and i didnt even bother asking the price

Edit~ i forgot to mention when i first started reading this i didnt think it was going to end up being a theft story but a sabotage one instead where they were going to dump whatever was in the Tea Cup into tanks.

Also those wouldnt even be close to fish I would consider stealing. what the hell would someone do with all those giants?

I saw videos of something similar on a saltwater forum. A group of people would go around to stores that had expensive coral in viewing tanks and would load up thousands of dollars worth of coral in a matter of seconds into cups and pockets.

not confusing info the guy dipped the net in 6 times so i said he caught "about" 6 fish but once the cup was confiscated it was confirmed at 5 fish

I haven't ever thought about stealing fish :nilly:

There are far better things to steal.
Like beef jerky
Or donuts
