If you use Melafix and dose correctly it works GREAT!!!!
I have had nothing but good experiences with this product.

every time ive used melafix/pimafix ive had casualties. I have been very particular about making sure I have correct dosage and they have still died. Sometimes I used them together. Sometimes individually. Everytime fish have died. I have actually had more luck with just quarantining the fish, adding salt and waiting.

It is often hard to blame the medication if the fish is sick in the first place... I had a fish with dropsy and tried Maracyn II, espom salt, and heat. It died, does that mean the antibiotic or other treatments killed it?

I've used Maracyn a few times when I first started... it didn't kill the fish, but I didn't see rapid improvement. He was very rough and I was sure he was going to die, but 2 years later he is in perfect health.

Acer has a good point. I wonder how many of us have enough experience with sick fish and various treatments to really make an accurate conclusion. I would think that if any of us had that much sick illness we would be doing alot of other things wrong.
And sometimes, fish just die.

Me too! Great product!

First thing, half of the cap treats 5 gallons of water! 1 drop of that in a bag should have done it. I didn't read past the first page, so forgive me, but why would you add it into a bag while acclimating? If you knew the fish was sick, why not quarentine it first anyhow?

MelaFix is a mild antibiotic made from tea tree leaf extract, it's a holistic medication and isn't really effective in any serious infections - sort of like putting neosporin in your tank.

Ich is probably the easiest thing to cure, just add 1 tblspn of salt per 5 gallons to agitate the slime coat and gill function and increase the temps to 86 for a week.

I had some extensive exposure to Tea Tree Oil several years ago through a company that marketed products for human use. I found it fairly useless--another "holistic" product, like blue-green algae etc. that was mostly a gimmick to sell stuff. I suspect that the same applies to fish, although fish are not even susceptible to the placebo effect that helps some humans. I doubt it is harmful in small doses but I also doubt it is very useful. I tried Melafix once for my fish--nothing. Just my humble opinion.

i put in some melafix into my tank just now cuz i saw one of the fish i got yesterday had some cut or something. man that thing made my fish go BERSERK!!!! EVERYTHING that was healthy started shimmying, scratching themselves on the gravel, trying to jump out of the water after like 10 minutes! i was freaked out! after watching for 20 minutes i did a 66% water change. this medication is insane! what the heck is this stuff? it's supposed to cure open wounds and stuff, not make fish go nuts. i dosed correctly - very conservatively in fact. i will never use this crap again. i've used stuff that's crazy strong like clout and NOTHING ever reacted badly to that.
i got this medication cause it was supposedly all natural - BS! this stuff made my fish (all except one are very very healthy btw) all clamp up their fins, start gasping and all that nonsense. it's scary! i will never use this product again!
