May be CichlidsGoneWild can answer this question. It's not from me, thus, quoted,

Why would one turn their filter off? If you just change 25-30% of the water, then the intake tube should still be low enough to siphon the water out.... And why in the world would you dose the tank with meds?????
UGGH!!!!

Sorry for the loses I lost both a fully stocked reef and a fully stocked discus tank, I feel your pain. Keep the stuff as the cost of supplies will just keep going up.

I did a water change and forgot to plug back the canister filter. 7 hrs later I noticed the fish stressed and shedding slime coat so I dump Parasite and Fungus med to treat the 75g. By the next evenning, the tank water was murkier than the Amazon River. I openned the cabinet door and realized the canister was unplug for well over 24hrs and the only thing powering the tank the whole time was a powerjet. I did a water change hoping the bichir would recover but they checked out tonight.

As of right now, I'm thinking of getting out. The hobby is too expensive and too time consuming.

I don't think that was it.
now that this happened to you... you will be more aware.... the most important thing with fishkeeping i found is to not do anything.. or only do it when your not rushing.. rushing you make mistakes... it just cannot be helped.. the other thing most important is because your not rushed you get in the habit of looking things over.. checking everything..see how they are doing.. before u medicate.. check your eqipment... water perimeters.. etc.. i am sure their loss is not in vain.. you learned alot.. i am sorry you learned this way though... but it happens to all of us one time or another..

Thank you everyone for giving me reasons not for quite. I have some personal challenges that require more attention right now. With time being allocated to personal challenges I cannot devote as much time to fish keeping as I wanted to. A mistake like this is very costly, thus, making me rethink how much money and time I've spent on the hobby. So far I'm calling it quite or maybe downsize to make the hobby manageable.
