eh...ur right, to each his own.:D

if thats supposed to be sarcastic it really shouldnt be.

lets take for an example an Emporer Filter you throw that mechanical media out when you replace the cartridge. lets see how come your tank doesnt crash ? hmm lets see....we rely on the bio wheel aka bio media to help maintain our benificial bacteria

My only other guess after reading all 13 pages is something somewhere isnt being disturbed enough and as a result causing anaerobic conditions to form, which long story short, leads to your ammonia levels increasing. Clogged filters which you said you somewhat had, can do this. Also are you suspectible to overfeeding, as anything uneaten decays, and both these factors could lead to an increase in your ammonia. Any odd smell coming from your water either?

no, there was no sarcasm at all there. just agreement on the comment.

i have lost no fish at all. if the tank was re cycling wouldnt it have been done by now? its been a month. maybe even longer... the fact that its 2 tanks is what confuses me... im gonna listen to the 50%WC guy....and get prime. the ammonia went down in the 55 after a 25% WC and cleaning the sponges. i maybe feed 2x a day...which isnt much for my stock.

Since you lost no fish your ammonia is not that lethal. I have an old 90 ten years plus running. I only have one Ac 110 on it and 1 large bubble wand going. I do a 30% water change once a week and vacum halfthe gravel once per week. I add declorinator to the tank leave the 110 on rinse the bio rings and sponge in cold tap water quickly put it back in the filter add the new water and that is it. My water is clear and 0 ammonia. I have a 12 inch scarlet pleco in there and a lot of larger barbs and some geos and the water stays clear with 0 ammonia. My piont once a tank is established you really have to work at killing thebacteria. In you case I would do 30% water changes once a week rinse your media in tank water and feed every other day lightly and leave the tank alone. It will stabilize and I your fish will not starve. My tank is actually overstocked and I never had an ammonia spike and never lose fish.

it just means you have bacteria bloom and they will slowly die off and stablize in which case, your water will become clear again.

so after taking some suggestions here i cleaned my sponges....did my water changes..primed.. and used all the extra bacteria products...and now im left with my 55 so cloudy i cant see the back glass...and both my ammonias are higher then they were when i first started...so wtf can i do. i bought all new media and foams and carbon...im ready to just start the damn cycle over. i honestly dont know what to do. there is nothing being done wrong. i just dont get it
