Good luck man! What are you studying btw?

Nursing :screwy:

If I pass tomorrow I am 3 classes away from being an RN. All I need is OB and pediatrics, take the NCLEX and I'm done. Hopefully I'll do well. I've been studying. I'm so nervous though I'm having a hard time closing the power point slides and going to bed. I don't want to take anything either because the exams at 8am along commute away and my alarm clock (my fiance ) is out of town til wednesday.

That's a rather hypocritical statement considering it came from someone who just recently posted ''Geee man, every day one learns something new!''

For starters I've yet to see your name in the scientific journals as the all-know, wise epitome of Piranha care and information. Secondly there are simply too many unknowns in this case to toss out a demanding statement such as ''Do as you're told.'' I mean, is this a 30 gallon tank with 10 - 11'' Pygos and you're telling him to do a 30% water change every 10 days and not daily else he's a rube? What type of feeding regimen are the fish on? What are the characteristics of each individual fish?

I've found that virtually no two fish are identical and each has their likes/dislikes and there's probably very few set-ups that are identical as well.

So did I miss the Gods of Piranha swooping down from the heavens and crowning you the Master of Piranha Keeping? Do you know all there is to know about Piranha behavior to the extent that the rest of us are nothing but simple-minded half-brights that annoy you with valid questions? I mean after all, this is supposedly a forum dedicated to providing accurate information on proper care and husbandry of Piranha and a place in which should be comfortable for a Piranha keeper both new and old to ask questions of such....

There's simply TOO many ''Master Gurus'' on online forums of every description that feel as their way is the only way and anyone trying something new is a foolish rube.

In honor of Mothers' Day I'd just like to say; If you have nothing good to say, just don't say anything.

Gee Ohio, I think you're overreacting to this lasT post of mine man.

Wasn't my intention to sound so pedantic justr trying to help the man.

Have you read all the thread since the beginning?.

And I am not trying to show I know everything about fishkeeping, piranha keeping or else.

I am soorry you got that impression.

Amen. I respect the fact that your doing that brandtii project. I think alot of people that post on forums (probably myself included) can be a bit pedantic about piranhas. Nevertheless I think that when somebody comes here asking for general piranha keeping advice, it would be irresponsible to tell people to just try anything. I think we should be respectful when doing it however, but if somebody says "hey I'm new to piranha, just picked up 5 RBPs and rhom. They're all in my 55g tank. They're about 6-7 inches in length. I'm feeding them bloodworms and they won't eat. What am I doing wrong?" I think it would be irresponsible to not give them some sort of advice. I do agree however that we should try to avoid labeling ourselves as "experts." That is unless your an ichthyologist specializing in piranhas, or you've been in the hobby for 20+ years.

Just my .02. :)

Give me a break man! who is labeling as an expert?, just trying to help the man and doing 30% daily water changes in not the best for any fish.

I think if I am being to pedantic or rude to our phillipinean friend he must be capable enough for sure to let me know don't you think so?.

why would doing 30% daily WC not the best for any fish?

Well to tell true I am infering that when a partial WC is made, it is commonly done with tap water and tap water is commonly treated with chlorine.

So you would be exposing your fish to a daily chlorine dose which can stress out your fish and lead them to desease if chlorine doesn't kill them first.

So tap water or any other water used in the partial WC must be free of chlorine and set to the same temperature of your tank before pouring it inside of it.

If given the case that one is taking care of this two odetails (chlorine and temp), there shouldn't be any other problem to make a daily water change, but we have to be very aware of this two details.

Moreover a 30% daily water change using dechlorined water and set to the same temp of the tank would repersent a lot of work and soon the hobbist would be fed up. it is not practical.

Is there any other reason teacher?.:D

the other reason you shouldn't do 30% water change other than temperature and chlorine issue is if the untreated water will cause pH swing in the tank. if new water has all parameters check out good then I say do it~!!

that's why I have a 32 gallon bucket to let the water "age" which takes care the chlorine issue and at least settle to room temperature and my tap water outputs 7 pH. this way I can do small partial water change whenever I'm in the basement. this is my ghetto semi auto water change system.
