Moloch I think you pretty much have the right Idea. But on the pictus I would have to disagree on what alot of peopel say at keeping these guys in schools.. when they are juvies they like schools.. when adults they don't really enjoy eachothers company unless you have a pair, and even then some aggression can occur. I doubt removing the Cons would increase your JDs aggression to a level it would impact the tanks balances. He'll be happy to harass the tiger barbs ( imo good choice on a dither for him/her and yours Sens.) I'de personally feel confortable with your stock dropping the cons and getting a pictus. Long term you know you'll need to upgrade for the Sens, at their size 1 yr sounds about right. Pictus generally will hit 4"-6" fairly fast then slow down. Long as you keep up with water changes and your tank ( which seems like your more then willing to do) I seriously doubt you'de have any issues with the stock list. Btw when your looking to upgrade look into a 120Wide 4'x2'x2'(? i think thats the height I could be wrong.. I'm a footprint person..) The extra depth to the tank will go a long way. They also usually cost about the same as a 125.
I have 2 sens, a tt eel, whiptail cat, and a dwarf pike cichlid in a 40breeder atm. The sens and TT will be getting an upgrade eventually. But my tanks perameters are always good. I'm religious on my upkeep. As long as you understand the adult needs of your fish growing them out is rarely an issue in smaller tanks. Its when you stuff fish in tanks to small for adults and do not Care for them properly aka Lots of water changes, and filtration. that people run into issues.
And you can never have to much filtration.. ever.. Just to much water circulation for some species.
Ultimately sounds like no matter what you decide you know enough to make good choices.
