I'm through with using buckets!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kinda like the slowness of the python. It takes about 4 buckets to vacuum my sand and the python does the rest which gives me time to pay my bills. If the python were faster I would have to stand there and pay attention.

I refuse to put untreated water in my tanks. I use buckets but will switch to a large trashcan on wheels and a strong pump soon.

why? do you keep delicate fish with a specific chemistry? is your tap chemistry drastically different than your tanks? what do you do to the water in the buckets?

i only add prime to the tank and tap water at the right temp. 50% weekly water changes keeps my tank water at almost the exact same params as the tap and i never shocked a fish ever.

i use 55 gallon trash cans on wheels for mine. drain all into the can and i have a big powerhead with hose attatchment that goes out to my plants. i water my plants using the poopy water. great fertilizer and lowers my water footprint! recycle! dump your water in planters, gardens, lawn, anything but the drain. but thats just me

great idea. was trying to think of a good way to transfer and this works. How did you incorporate the power head?

OP you need the brass adapter to hook up the python. There is a rubber piece in it which comes out and should fit onto your sink. You will have to buy it online though. Cost was about 5 bucks...it was brass though. So no warping.

With 3k posts, I was also shocked.

I also use a python/aqueon. And as much as I change water, the thought of doing it with a 5 gallon bucket is absolutely maddening. I hated doing it on my 20 gallon much less my larger tanks. Lol

I do use a 5 gallon bucket with a nice lid on it for seat!!!

I don't have the python. I have a garden hose attached to my sink in the basement. When i have to empty water I use one of my Aquaclear 110 powerheads to pump it outside.

My tanks are close to those sliding glass doors into the backyard, so I just siphon it out into the garden, then fill up with the garden hose. Easy Peasy! :D Plus, I save money because if you make it go down the drain you have to pay a "wastewater" fee.

try emptying it out ... in the toilet. toilet drain pipes are larger than sinks and drain a lot faster... that is if it will reach.

I can see it now, yelling to my wife "ok baby, flush it before its full..."

is your sewer metered?

as far as i know a waste-water fee or tax is a percentage of your usage or water bill... in which case you are not actually saving yourself any money.
