Only time I've ever seen fish act like this is after being poisoned. Are you sure no chemicals were near the tank? Windex, algae remover, something on your hands, overdose of prime, testing chemicals etc? Not a chance for any of these?

The nitrates were 20 last night everything else was good.I used two differnt test strips,API and Tetra. The sand is about 2-3 inches deep. The test strips are about a month old.I'm surprised they didn't get better when I put them in isolation tank.I plan on doing a water change and sand cleaning shortly.

Ya that sounds like last year i did a water change while they were treating my water system. i noticed when my tank smelled like a pool, but many of my fish sat stiff with fins at their sides. maybe add a little carbon to remove and chemicals? course don't do this if you are treating the tank with medicine

The last time I cleaned the tank was Monday. This started last night.I never use any chemicals in the fish room.I use just plain water on a rag for dusting and cleaning glass, same with floor. Now that I think of it I did buy a new brand of water conditioner because no one is selling the stuff I use to use or even the backup brand. There should of been a change in behavior when I took them out of their tank.

What's your stock/filtration/water change schedule?

I'm not using any meds.I do water change every Monday, stock was 5 baby gold JDs,4 baby JDs,and a bristlenose pleco in a 75 gallon.I have an Emperor 400 for filtration, sand stirred with water changes and bio rings to help with BB in filter and one large bubbler.Notthing new added to tank.

Test strips are inaccurate at best get a good test kit and test your water with that or take a sample to your LFS and let them do it. If they were posined by the release of a toxin from the substrate it will depending on the level of exposure take time to recover. The nitrites might be high also I wouldn't trust the results from strips.

I do have a liquid test kit that came with 120 gallon tank.Never used it because I don't know how it is and I've had no problems with 120 gal tank which I did with sand about a month before I did the 75.They both get taken care of equally.
