Dr Joe,
Can you explain a little more about heating with the pvc pipes?
You just submerge them 4" below the water surface?
Interesting, but I don't quite understand.
Thanks

I used 4mil black construction plastic sheeting suspended 4" below the surface.

For pvc pipe collectors I used 3/4" pipe 5ft long (just cut 10ft pipe for space), mine had 26 pieces connected with 'U' shaped connectors to make it a continuous, used flat black automotive exhaust header paint on all exposed pipes (clean with paint thinner etc. & rough up pipe lightly with sand paper) . mounted it on a 2x4 frame (I put aluminum foil 3" spray glued on a styrofoam backing behind the pipes shiney side up for the most concentration), with 'A' frame legs to pivot it for best exposure, and used an auxilary pump to to push the water thru (that way you don't have to worry about the pump overheating) the unit and the extra distance.

Do not make this a closed system without some sort of pressure relief / release.

If unit is generating too much heat just cover part of the collector during this period.

That's the quick & dirty of it.

Any questions...just ask. :D

Dr Joe
That makes more sense.
So you only need an extra pump to pump the water to the 3/4" pcv pipes?
Can you by any chance post some pictures, that will help a lot.
Thank you for the info

Sorry no pix...

I make alot of prototypes for proof of performance testing, some stay - some go. Plus I lost alot with the hurricanes the last few years (big trees fell).

Well have you ever swam in a pond or a lake with fish in it. Kinda the same thing right???? As long as the filtration is good enough I don't see a problem at all. Anyways how else are you going to clean it.

Chad

I don't know if I'd want to swim in a pond/pool with cichlids in it. Especially if he was going to keep red devils. Yikes!!

^ yeah and the local MFK'ers would be happy as well. You know if you need help with anything you can post on MFK and I'm sure you'll get tons of curious helpers! Just keep the cooler full ;)
