In-ground Pool soon to be a POND!!!

This is from Practical Fishkeeping Magazine,

"As a general rule of thumb you need to allow for a pond which recieves at least half a days worth of sunlight, or more than 10 watts of UV light per 1000 gal of water - so on a 5000-gal pond, you would need 50 watts of UV, but most models (not all!) come in sizes of 4, 6, 8, 15, 25, 30, 55, so you would be best opting for a 55 watt unit, which would cost around 110 pounds, as it's better to be over than under."

So for your pond, I would get 60 watts. This is because there would be next to no shade and its out in full sun, thus needs stronger UV to kill the faster growing algae. Also you dont know how many gallons exactly, so I'd rather be way over then under.

well the pond was really dirty so this passed weekend i drained and clean it. This weekend i will be building one of the filters. I still need to buy a UV sterilizer. i just havent found the right one for the right price. Is there any DIY out there on sterilizers?

Cool project! Glad to hear you drained and cleaned it! Like the shape of the pool, that's going to be some community of fish you can put in there.... Did you take any pics of it empty?

Great news i drained and clean the pool again and took a bunch of pictures. Also have the build of my barrel filter but i think im going to need more barrels. I had been needing to clean it but i havent found the time but when i lost my 24" TSC i owed it to him to clean his old home. The goldfish are happy but i think the plecos aren't going to be too happy. I will get pictures up tonight!
