Alexandria Virginia Salon's Medieval Beauty Gimmick Reportedly Kills 7,000 Fish and more continue to die daily.

Yvonne Hair and Nails Salon in Alexandria, Virginia, is dumping thousands of tiny fish in a tub resembling a kiddy pool which is filled with water heated to 94 degrees Fahrenheit for a bizarre skin treatment called the "Doctor Fish" massage. Clients are instructed to dangle their feet in the tub so that these little animals can munch away the dead skin. The Doctor Fish massage is touted as a relaxing and unique experience during which "people can realize the harmony between human and nature."

Confining thousands of fish to a tiled pool in a beauty salon, in 94 degree Fahrenheit water is anything but harmony with nature! In fact, it's exceptionally cruel. These severely crowded fish have no environmental enrichment, and they're fed the calluses and corns of customers who care more about foot beauty than about animals' lives and welfare. Furthermore, these fish's lives are very much at risk. In fact, 7,000 of these helpless animals were reportedly cooked to death recently after an Yvonne Salon staff member left the heat on in the animals' tub. Not to be dissuaded by this tragic setback, salon spokespeople have informed PETA that the store has already ordered "replacement fish." The fish reportedly continue to die by the hundreds daily, yet Yvonne could care less.

Please call the management at Yvonne Hair and Nails Salon and demand they do the right thing and get rid of the Doctor Fish massage. Remind the salon that fish aren't just merchandise that it can damage and reorder but rather sentient beings capable of suffering. Let the salon know that there are plenty of ways to pamper their clients without harming animals, and ask the salon to adopt animal-free products and tried and true exfoliating treatments. When we called the owner Yvonne arrogantly told us to mind our own business. Now the salon is telling callers that no one has ever complained to them. Playing ignorance. They have received many calls and we must keep calling them as we are the only voice in defense of these little fish and they need us. Their little lives do matter to many people, so PLease Help. Please feel free to cut and paste this article and post this anywhere in the world you want and on craigslist.

Saw that on the news a week or so ago. Hopefully it's a fad that dies quickly.
 
You would think there would already be people there with signs and stuff.
 
That's dum, apparently there are two fish they use , the chin chin and then the garra rufa which is the only actually toothless fish that secrets enzymes breaking away the dead skin. The chin chin eventually develops teeth and gets much larger.

Yeah I hope it's a fad, this is quite unnecessary.
 
If you think killing hundred of fishes by over cooking them is cruel...

Please take a look at the big picture around the world...

How about the slaughter house for chicken, cow, pig and etc etc. How about million of fishes that were pull out of water each day?

or

How about people that cut up fish for sushi, or how about people that dump live fish, shrimps and crabs into a hot pot and later to be consume (its taste good)!!!

We are evil to the world... Million of life get executed each day and we cosume it...

The difference between food and cosmetics are not comparable.
 
I agree. We do need to eat. Not everyone wants to eat plants.:D The animals that are killed for food are raised for that purpose. The fish that are caught at least have a chance to escape before being caught. Those fish in the tub have almost no chance for survival. Not to mention that they are being used to groom some ones foot.

Because people absolutely need to eat that sushi and that veal :D.

People are destructive by nature, if they like something they don't care who or what it harms.

You could live your whole life not harming any animals, just become a vegan, but for every steak you don't eat, I'm going to eat 2 ;).

Yes this is stupid, but its none different then anything else, and you can't justify killing animals by saying "we need the steak", you can only justify it by saying "we WANT the steak". Actually i don't see using the fish as anywhere near as harmful as what real sushi restaurants do, or like lobster/crab boiling and cows and pigs aren't kept in any better condition, but of course most city people think they all live in huge grass pastures where they are free to frolic and run around as they please. NOT.

I'm going to go ahead and eat my tortured baby cow meat and my freshly killed fried chicken now.
