I personally think a well planted freshwater aquarium looks better than reef aquariums. I like reef tanks but doubt id spend the money on one when I can make a planted tank thats bigger for the same price. So imo i would stay freshwater, if you want to try something new or something you have done in a while do a community planted tank lol. I mean majority of the members of this site haven't touched a small community fish in a few years right?

I dont understand why everyone thinks a reef tank has to be expensive. If you have to have everything right now, then it is very expensive. If you are willing to let time be your friend, its not that bad.

i think it's the just the general view that the public has. heck, even i do since i know nothing about saltwater. it just seems so mysterious and expensive lol. but what am i saying, ive got close to $1300 invested in that 57g, and it doesnt even have water or plants yet

maybe for the next tank. cant live w/o a planted! they do have some neat rimless cube tanks at my lfs. about $150 with stand, theyre like 18x18x18 or bigger. a little nano reef would be sweet

now I've never kept salt and I'm a huge fan of freshwater, I do have to admit, a well planned and stocked reef tank is hard to beat, if you can afford it.
my vote goes to reef with a triggerfish
