Perfect but another couple questions Joey as far as on the net there is a company that sells ten inch cans that you can put as many in line as you want Obviously smaller carbon cartriges they say that these take care of the chlorine and chlorimines plus the have another resin cartrige to further purify how long would a stack of those smaller cartriges last until replacement is neccisary ? At A&E or A&S Aquaqtics something like that ...Also i bought 3 300 watt Jagers rated for 265 gals each should i think about buying a 1000 watt titanium instead with outside temp control or are the jagers enough?

Hulon I would look at the best in line heater you can get.

On the heating, what will the lowest room temp be in the winter? Because I'll tell you, I had 1500w on my 400g in the garage. In the winter, I could not even keep 78-80. Temps in the garage would drop below 60.

Rule of thumb: 4 watts per gallon to raise the tank temp 9 degrees over the ambient room temperature. It's basic physics. So some simple math, if the room stays 70 year round and you want to keep the tank at 79, you'll need 2700w of heating :)

Bro, Titanium 1000+ watt... or 2 x 500 Watt.. with temp controller. Is the tank inside your house or garage? I'd say if in your house 2 500's or 8's should work. If in your garage at least 2 x 1000 watt's... Never settle for just one heater, like having just 1 pump. If one breaks you have the other. Jagers will work as long as you meet the wattage. But personally id go titanium. Comes down to preference. In addition, your sunning a sump so all the heaters can be hidden.

Just check the volume of water the cartridges are good for. Some are only good for up to 1000 gallons...

Yeah man, I learned the hard way. Went away for a weekend which happened to be one of the coldest days last winter. Came back and my cichla were covered in ich, water was cold. Had to add a bunch of extra heaters to get it close to 80, and that was with 1500 watts already running. Then I saw the watts/gallon table per AES, and had a "duh" moment lol

Keep in mind, this is only for the winter. Any other time with cali weather and you wont be running the heaters for too long. But all it takes a few days of a massive cold spell. Also, think about heating/insulating the garage if it isn't. Could prove to be more cost effecient than heating the tank. You could even wrap the tank in insulation during the winter.

Of course, this all depends how cold your garage will get during the winter.

J's right..don't sell yourself short when it comes to heating.

I would rather have the titaniums with the temp control so as they go out and they will i can replace them the inline nice titaniums two inch are $800 and i am sure they go out also i guess i will get i filled here maybe the end of the week or early next put a thousand titanium and three jagers and see get it cycling and see if i can keep temp and add accordingly it seems the garage stays a little warmer but i'm sure when it dips to the 30's outside it would go under 60 in the garage ...Right now it;s lets say low fifties in early morning and a couple days have dipped to 40 degrees so it gets cold for sure but not chicago cold -20 LOL!!!

Where are you looking for heating? Check out Jehmco. Their titanium heaters are great and they come with top-quality Ranco controllers, which are industrial use. A 1000w rod and controller goes for $150. Each controller can handle 1800w, so you could run 1000w + 500w rods on one controller.

Best to run multiple controllers if you can afford it. That way, if a rod goes out you could easily tell. If you have more than one on one controller, it will difficult to know if one's gone out.

P.S. I have a Ranco controller and a 500w on my 57g planted tank, talk about overkill lol! Left over from the 400g, so why not put it to use. Being that the tank is indoors, the heater kicks on, then back off a few minutes later. With 500w, it's super easy to keep the temps spot on :)

LOL !!!! i will check those out ...The 800 doller one is an in line commercial one were the water runs through it but like i was saying those go out just like any other the titanium rods sound like a better way to go is what i meant...

And ya Joe it's going in the garage so i can't mess around....

So I was talking to KENS FISH up in Mass about heating my 600. He offers proheat controllers with 1000 watt titanium elements. He had the sale if he said they were ok. He recommended 6 300 watt heaters instead. Redundancy. If you have the space in the sump and the outlets I would go with multiple 300-400 watt heaters. The ambient temp of my basement is 68. In 12 hrs the 6 300s had the tank at 80. It hovers at 81 now. The beauty is I can always add more and if one fails I have 5 more to pick up the load. Another note I did get one inch insullation for the back and sides of the tank. This must make a difference. I will insulate the 120 gallon wet dry in the back too in the near future. Lastly, the 6 heaters are only set on 80 degrees, I still have space to crank them up if I want. Total cost with shipping 140 beans with 1lb of FD KRILL.

Oh yeah the thread topic....so if you had a line on some intermedia, would you A. announce the source and buy 2 for yourself or B. Buy them all and hord them, C. buy them all and give them to your MFK friends as Christmas gifts?
