Some can't find new job for months. Some people can't afford to not get paid for weeks.

I don't see how someone who've been an honest working person for years and years and payed into the pie and not file if they were let go and couldn't find a new job
 
(PS: Unemployment INSURANCE is paid for by the /business/ already. It is a known cost of operation, and is collected and administeredon the State level, NOT Federal, and has nothing to do with any individual's payroll -- or lack thereof.)

And why not compare them? If I recall correctly, they tend to be lumped together under the same derogatory term 'entitlements'. :P

It's a safety net for those in true need. Like I said, if you're really hurting and have mouths to feed, that is why it's there. Not going to get in to politics and get kelly's thread closed.

I'm really not DESPERATELY hard up for cash. I don't have rent, I don't have kids. I've got a few credit lines and car insurance. And gas. lol. Not going to be the end of the world for me to only make 600 a month for a bit. I'll survive. I've also got my student loans to fall back on. While I don't WANT to...The money is there to help with bills and stuff while I'm going to school. At the same time, it would be nice to not have to worry about it....

Sorry, Z, the writer rarely has anything to do with the film beyond the first draft. They typically buy the first draft for the idea and then make it what they want. If you're really good, it won't be butched as bad but word is all to often, they mangle the original script. Specially if you sell it to a big production company.
